Ah, that's the ESA work programme. Seems you have to inform if you're in the Support Group

Didn't realise that. It sounds crazy that when you're in the work program you don't have to tell them but in the support group, when you're unable to work anyway, you have to tell them. I just don't get it.

I was awarded Support Group ESA in Oct 2012. I don't have the original letter, or the accompanying notes, so am happy to believe that I might have mis-remembered.

Does anyone know if you're able to go on holiday while claiming ESA and PIP?

I've researched and posted on another forum yet I'm getting mixed responses.

I'd only be going away for 4 days but, unless I absolutely have to, I don't really want to inform the DWP and draw attention to my case.

How would they know anyway? Is it something to do with using your passport?

    Thanks

NOW THEN!! get yourself on holiday & dont be such a silly person ! , think of yourself only, & not what you want or worried about what other people think, if the plane crashes !!!, then i will inform them.
My neighbour goes for 6 months of the year, every year,if you do start going for 6 months at a time !, just get someone close to check your mail & if you have to come home,so be it, its not the end of the world,

but to be serious its 28 days i suspect,:)

I am in receipt of ESA (Support Group) and PIP, I returned from Malta yesterday after a five day break, I did not notify anyone other than my employer.

We will be going to Florida at end of February for twelve days, I wont notify anyone then either.

You will also get mixed responses on here too.
you claim PIP which only goes to those who have severe disabilities but you can fly and go abroad? I have quite severe epilepsy but am told im not disabled enough to get it and I certainly couldn't fly or go abroad.

I know it's shocking isn't it......I get ESA SG.....HRM and HRC....and I might not be able able to walk much anymore but guess what they still let me on planes....in fact I'm going to be lying in the sun for a total of 4 weeks this year....
You really need to put your bitterness away and consider your self lucky you only have "quite severe epilepsy" but obviously not 'severe enough' to warrant PIP....I know three people with Epilepsy who now receive PIP so maybe your 'quite severe epilepsy' is'nt quite as severe as you like to keep moaning about..

I almost choked on my bucks fizz in bed reading this!

You silly little person, obviously when I board the plane I turn left in to business class at the very least. There are beds on a plane now, didn't you know this?

Like poppie, I too will be lying in that sun for at least four weeks this year, possibly more.

I'm not sure if it's the epilepsy, the bitterness of not knowing whether to report the man claiming benefits according to your friend who works in the doctors, or the abuse by your father, but boy, you do have issues.

    Update

Telephone call to DWP this morning at 8.10am

Me.......Hello I am in receipt of ESA SG and PIP and i'm going on holiday soon and not sure if I have to notify you?

DWP.....How long are you going for?

    Me........22 days

DWP......Well it wont affect your benefit but when are you going?

    Me.........26th February

DWP.......Well it is a little early to notify us, if you want to call back a few days before you are going and we can update your records unless you want me to update now?

Me........So I don't have to fill in a 15 page brochure because I am going away?

DWP......No, would you like me to update your case now?

    Me.........Yes Please

National Insurance and security questions answered.

DWP.......So you are going on the 26th February for 22 days, where are you going?

    Me..........Florida

DWP.......Thank you for letting us know, I have updated your records.

Me..........Do I HAVE to let you know if I go away in the future?

DWP.......Well there is nothing that says you HAVE to let us know and in your case it does not affect your benefit, the only thing it would affect is if we wrote to you while you were away but I cannot see how that would affect your time away, nothing would appear that urgent that it would need dealing with within a normal two week holiday, as you are going for three weeks it is probably best you do notify us.

    Me........Thank you very much.

So that, in a nutshell, was my experience of notifying the DWP that I would be away from home, they weren't bothered, when I go away in June and October I wont tell them as I will only be going for two week holidays.
