ESA and you have an employer????

You can also claim ESA when on long term sick and your SSP has ran out.

bspm, do you have the link with that info?

NYM has posted the link I got the information from, I was trying to keep it simple for you, it is a long link that deals with many things other than your original question of holidaying abroad and notifying DWP.
  • Ok that's good news thanks all, that's put my mind at rest. I was a bit worried after posting on another forum and a couple of replies said the DWP had to be notified if you were to go away for 24 hours...

You will always get different responses to questions, understandably, even fervent/diehard members cant know it all.

I think, and this is my opinion only, that a lot of the people who post here tend to post about their experiences and how the rules affected them at the time, as a former DWP employee I understand and realise that rules change all the time, so, what happened to them when they were either going through the same problem or 'googling' answers to others who were having issues does not necessarily help the current poster with their request for information.

When I got my ESA award, the letter said that I should notify DWP if I was away from home for 24 hours or more.

After reading your post I re read my award notification dated December 2014 and nowhere does it state that I have to notify the DWP of any absence of 24 hours.

Just checked all my letters for ESA and none of mine say it either!

How ridiculous would that be, everytime you went to stay with a relative or friend etc overnight you would need to call the DWP...the phones would be clogged up with claimants notifying.

Of course it would be ridiculous - I'm just relaying what the letter said. I don't have my original award letter, I don't think, so I can't repeat it word for word.
