Even if it is out of warranty, its worth asking the manufacturer, the worst they can say is no.

Otherwise take it back to the retailer and see what they say, you may need to get an independent report showing theres an inherent fault, but worth asking them first to see what they say.

even if you dont have any rights to a fix, doesn't mean you wont get one, just always ask nicely and dont demand anything

SOGA gives you longer than twelve months . But after six months its up to you to prove the item should have lasted longer or had a defect from new.

Correct. The SOGA protects you from a laptop that is out of warranty but is only 22 months old. This assumes
    a. the laptop has not been abused (e.g. has not been used 24/7 with a business and has been -mainly- used in a fixed position e.g. table top). A letter from you -with pictures if necessary- should be enough to satisfy this condition
    b. the computer shop is VAT-registered and can provide a statement to the effect that "I <name> have examined laptop and is in good/excellent condition -not abused- and fault appears to be a hardware fault -give all details- and in my professional view has failed prematurely"

Then collect all the info and take to the retailer. It takes time and effort which is the main issue.
