I am growing several varieties this year to raise money for our school gardening club by selling plants. I always grow Sungold and last year tried Ildi (tasteless), Gardener's delight (got greenback) Gartenperle (lots of fruit on a small bushy plant, not so tasty as Sungold but OK) also Moneymaker (OK, later cropping than sungold, standard size). However I am told that taste varies a lot according to soil, fertilizer and watering.
This year I am trying Latah (supposed to be very early), Russian Black (not good germination), Red Alert (outdoor bush variety, already has flowers coming so earlier than Latah), Tiny Tim (small plants you can grow on a windowsill) and Marmande (beefsteak variety which can be grown outside. I'll report on how they did later in the year.
