What to expect from an electrical installation certificate?

Options
hi

Just had my house lighting rewired and a new consumer unit.

Just received the certificate from the electrician as a pdf, is this ok? Should I receive a paper copy, signed etc?

Also, should building regs at council be contacted or is the certificate itself enough?

Thanks for any input.

Its very common now only to receive an electronic copy of certificates. This includes Gas Safety Installations. A copy will automatically be registered with the accrediting body as well as building control. This is done automatically and you don't need to do anything more.

That's great, thanks for the reassurance.

You should also receive a certificate of compliance through the post to confirm that the work has been registered with building control.

Does the cert have a signiture and printed name of the person who has carried out the work and tested it?

No signature, but company name, address and registration number. Also a certificate number at top of certificate.

Should I receive this from building control or the electrician?

There is nothing wrong with an Electrical Installation Certificate being produced in digital format, however it still must be signed.

There is not a space for a signature in the section which is titled DETAILS OF THE ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR, just the details I posted above...

At the bottom of each page is "This form is based on the model shown in Appendix 6 of BS 7671:2008 amended 2013".

Is it possible/worth contacting building regs to check they've received notification?

Sorry, totally wrong in my above post - there is a separate section for the name, title and signature, which has been completed apart from the signature...

Any advice. In the first instance I'll ask for a copy with signature?

If I send a certificate digitally I append my signature digitally to the certificate so that the PDF you have received will be signed. So certainly point out to the contractor that the certificate is not valid unless signed, but other than that I don't see any issue.
