Can I Switch?

Hello All,

I recently took out a second current account with Halifax, however upon reading some MSE articles it occurred to me that I should be availing of the switching rewards offered by certain banks. If I was to setup an account with one of the banks that offer these bonuses, can I use my new Halifax account that has been open last than a few weeks as the switching account?

Thanks, I thought there may have been an issue with the Current account only having been in operation for a few weeks.

I presume First Direct is still the best at £125?

I found it very easy as I have only spent about half an hour on it. You just need a great deal of patience as it takes a long time from application to getting paid. A bit like M&S and the Coop.

Is it just a long process?

Branch applications are the quickest, at around 6 weeks from application to incentive payment.

Telephone applications, especially the early adopters and those jumping in when the T&Cs were later relaxed, were where the 'issues' were experienced.

Being from Northern Ireland the telephone option may only be available to me. First Direct maybe my preferred option as it offers £125 reward and £250 interest free overdraft.

Just to clarify is this open to Northern Ireland residents and if so is the only switching criteria to transfer £1000 into this account or does it have to be paid via a salary? Finally how long does the £1000 have to remain in the account for?
