Late Service
Hi
Just a quick one. I have been thinking its almost time for my service on my car so I just pulled out my service book to see when my last one was. It was the end of Jan 13' as I remembered. However for some reason I had it in my head it was 20,000 miles between services, I've just checked the service manual and its actually 12,500 miles! Needless to say I've gone over this by about 5,000. I will be getting it serviced next week though as intended
It's my own oversight I know but I'm wondering if there is any real detrimental effects? My car is just out of warranty by about 9 months so I know it doesn't negate that. But I am on a PCP deal with it, I'm within my mileage for the agreement but would this have any impact on my GMVP??
I was also considering Voluntary Termination @ 50% in May, could that be an issue now?
Any advice appreciated, thanks

I wouldn't worry about the mileage being over, but two years between services is a long time. I'd have thought the interval would be 12.5K or 1 year.0

12500? Are you sure it doesn't say "12500 or 12 months"?“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

I would dig out your paperwork. It should be in the terms what is expected of you but I imagine that there would be something about servicing otherwise you could just get it from new and do 45k miles without ever bothering with a service.
Ultimately missing a service can affect the value so it may well have an impact. How much of an impact is anyone's guess. Contact the company that you have the agreement with for a definitive answer. They're going to find out eventually anyway.0 -

Apologies, that was a typo (still getting used to it being 2015)
It was last serviced Jan 14' - therefore I knew it was coming up to 12 months since it had last been serviced0 -

My service book says every 12,500 miles or every 12 months (whichever is sooner)
I went over the 12.500 this year so I'm now 5,000 over
Just trying to sort of quantify how much of an issue this is0 -
No issue. 5k over is no problem at all.
The "service it every 12months" is nothing more than a money maker for dealers/garages etc, No point, unless very high annual mileage. Home checks re fluids levels, top ups are more than enough.0 -

Cobblers.
A low annual mileage necessitates far more regular servicing (in terms of oil changes) than a high mileage.
If I were buying a car, I'd ratherit had done 15K a year on one annual oil change than 3K a year with servicing every two years.
Read any manufacturers guidelines on what constitutes 'harsh usage' requiring more regular servicing.0 -

But the question here is not one about for the good of the car but the consequence of breaching the terms of the finance by not following the stated service plan.0 -
I've seen several used cars over the years that main dealers have claimed FSH and when I've checked the stamps the mileages and dates are all over the place.
Years back I nearly bought a late Focus mk1 TDCI Sport, test drove it and sat down to talk money, flicked through the history to check everything was OK and it had the first 1,000 mile check then nothing until it had been traded 50k later.
Dealer claimed it had FSH, yet they failed to find any evidence it had been serviced previously, even contacting the supplying dealer.
So it had gone through several checks at the main dealer and either nobody noticed it or didn't care. As supposedly all their stock had FSH.
Basically hand it back at the end with the nook full of stamps and chances are they won't notice.0 -
