BT offer following MAC request

When our BT broadband and anytime contract was expiring, I had 2 useless conversations with BT's Customer Options department when the only deal on offer was free caller display. I mentioned the MAC code on both occasions but didn't follow it through. We decided to switch our broadband and anytime package to Plusnet and applied online for the MAC code. In the 'comments' box we said we felt existing customers were being penalised for their loyalty and so we were going elsewhere. BT called and offered us about a tenner off our monthly package. We said we'd go ahead anyway. And then came this email from their Customer Resolutions department, under subject heading 'Fantastic Loyalty Offer' .

"...I can see that you’re a loyal and longstanding BT customer and we’d really like you to stay with us.

I have reviewed your account and I would like to offer you:

...[the usual blurb about BT package]
Free caller display - Saving £1.75 per month.

I can reduce your broadband package price from £17.00 per month down to £5.85 per month. This is on a 12 month contract.

You are currently paying £7.45 per month for the Unlimited Anytime Calls, plus half price calls to UK mobile numbers. I can reduce this down to £5.30 per month.

...[No change in Line Rental at £16.99 per month, reduced to £14.15 per month if paid in advance]"

So the MAC code request works with BT too. But seemingly not when you phone the department they want you to phone. We're moving to Plusnet anyway, for the time being, but it was an enlightening experience.
