The quality is nowhere near as nice. I ordered a load for my son when we went away on holiday a couple of years ago. Deliver, packaging, taste, quality was spot on but like I said before, the portion size wasn't very generous.
Would be great if your elderly or on a diet though. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Maybe she just likes to have some in her freezer for days she can't be bothered cooking?0

I used them for about two years, on and off. It was mainly because they are very tasty and there are plenty of low calorie meals that are clearly marked which made it really easy to diet. I find most of the supermarket ready meals to be horrible. The Wiltshire delivery drivers were always very friendly and helpful.
The meals are more expensive than the supermarket ones, and most of them are small portions.0 -
They are also good if you need a modified texture diet (e.g. following surgery) as they do soft, mashable and puree meals that keep all the bits seperate and are a bit better than a normal dinner thrown in the blender!0

i tried one of my gran's oak house foods meals and wasn't that impressed. i can get better ones in Morrisons (try their NuMe range which are on offer a lot of the time)
i also think alot of them are quite high in salt0 -
I did see a lot of elderly people using them when I worked as a carer, and my grandparents used them before they went to live in a home. As has been said before, the portion sizes are not huge, I think I would be happy enough with them but my husband would be left wanting more. I have found Tesco's microwave meals have been getting even bigger recently.
I remember the soups in particular looked really tasty and there were good cuts of meat in the roast dinners. I'm fussy with meat so that stood out to me!0 -
We used to get them for my Nana and I got them after the birth of DS1 when everything was manic and I was on my own with the children.
They are less salt/sugar laden than the supermarket meals and they actually taste like they are supposed too. Healthier imo than supermarket meals.0 -
Any one can use them. And people do for all different reasons.
But the market they are aimed at is older people. Just look at the adverts in magazines and on the telly.
Hence the portion sizes being smaller. When people get older they tend to have a smaller appetite. And want something that tastes and looks home cooked.
And yes there puree ranges look good. like real food.
I knew someone who ate ready meals all the time. And she did to help loose and then maintain her weight. I personal thought that was a bit mad. But each to there own. Its there money and life. And they can do what they want.

Wish I had known about this !! I had 2 lots of major facial surgery in October and had 2 weeks on liquids only and 5 weeks on soft/puree diet - by the end of it I couldn't eat anything as fed up with soup and yogurt
This would have been ideal and I am nowhere near 40 !! Dr has suggested I might want the surgery again in 18 months time and I will certainly be remembering this for then xAug Comp Wins - :j
