COUNCIL TAX - Based on number of People?

Thankfully?
Odd comment.
I loved the community charge (aka poll tax) saved me a small fortune.
Shame it went.
Why do you think it's an odd comment? A significant proportion of the population of the UK would have been even more happy if it had happened much sooner.
As it happens I would also prefer the community charge, but that's probably the case for most single person households.0 -

Sorry! corrected your mistake in post:)The world is not ruined by the wickedness of the wicked, but by the weakness of the good. Napoleon0 -
It should be based, not on the number of residents, but on their total weight.0

Why not a local income tax? Would that not be fairer?
It's people, not houses, that use local services.0 -

Council Tax is not a payment for services it is a tax which goes towards funding local government expenditure.
So is national taxation, but it is levelled on individuals, not a household. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

What does the death of a politician have to do with the introduction, or otherwise, of a long gone tax?
I wasn't in a single person household but saved a lot of money through the community charge.0
