in Cutting tax
Hello all,
I wanted to know if council tax is based on the number of people in the household?
Or is it simply set by band? I know some people can get discounts and exemptions, but is it increased at all by adding more people to the home?
Thanks in advance.

It is based on the band
But if there is only one person in the household you may be able to get a 25% discount
Plus as you say there are exemptions and benefits too.
Check your local council's website for more info!PPI success. Banding success. Double Dip PCN cancelled! South facing solar (Midlands) and battery. Savings Session supporter (is it worth it now!?)0 -
No difference, except sole occupancy. I had a house once, let's say £1000/year CT, less 25%, £750/person.
My neighbour had 24 squeezed in in bunk beds, £1000/24 = £42/person.0 -
If there are at least 2 non-exempt people in the household then the full amount of CT is due regardless of how many there are. If there's only 1 non-exempt person then there's a strong chance that the sole occupancy discount of 25% will be applied. There can be any number of exempt people (for example, full time students) without affecting how much CT is otherwise due.0

They ought to introduce a Poll Tax. It's people who use local government services, not houses.

Someone called Slater or Tiler or some other "roofing" name did so in 1990. Not very popular and the tax was replaced 3 years later.
Council Tax is not a payment for services it is a tax which goes towards funding local government expenditure. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -
Which each individual benefits from rather than households.lincroft1710 wrote: »Someone called Slater or Tiler or some other "roofing" name did so in 1990. Not very popular and the tax was replaced 3 years later.
