Audi a1 clutch failure
Hi all, has anybody had a problem with an audi a1 1.6 diesel clutch. My car has done 22000 motorway miles from new and the audi dealership are saying the clutch is worn and is not covered by warranty and have quoted me 1400 pounds for replacement. Is this a common problem on these cars and is this normal, have been driving for 30 years and never experienced anything like this. Am amazed a clutch can wear so quickly and audi saying not covered on warranty, car is 18 months old. Anybody have any idea how I resolve this.

I've heard of clutches going earlier. The Aygo/C1/107 had issues and my mechanic replaced one after 12,000 miles. The company admitted there was a problem though and recommended that uprated clutches (from the Yaris I believe) were fitted. That was done under warranty within a certain time frame.
The issue you will have is if you drive like a loon you can wear a clutch out in no time at all, so it's a part they'll be reluctant to replace without evidence of an issue with the part.
I would go back to Audi and go above whoever you spoke to. 22,000 miles and 18 months is not exactly what you would expect from a manufacturer such as Audi (when driven sensibly). Even if it's not officially part of the warranty they may be willing to contribute a percentage.
Also there are a load of VAG specialists out there. Speak to one of them and see if they've heard of this problem. The more people who have the same problem the less chance Audi can accuse you of just ragging it!0 -
Wow £1400 to replace a clutch on an Audi A1! Completely shambolic!

Driving style is cautious, pull away smoothly, change gear appropriately, use handbrake when car is parked. Have driven for 30 years and never had a problem, at a loss at the moment and waiting for a call back from audi uk. Just wondering if anybody else had a problem like this with this model.0

Unless your burning your clutch out with bad driving then a clutch should really hit 50k+ local driver, good driving and motorway wiles i'd expect to hit 60-70+.
I'd get back to them and tell them the car is 1 1/2 years old with only 22k miles and you do not accept that it has failed due to reasonable wear and tear! Tell 'em if they do not sort it then to give you their final response in writing and you will have it inspected and replaced elsewhere before pursuing them for the costs.
(Assuming you bought the car from the dealership? If not you need to seek a remedy from the company that sold you it.)
As for the price - what a ridiculous price to charge. The clutch kit itself will probably come in at less than £150.0 -
£750 according to Audi's website.

Are you sure there's not other fixes included in the quote?0 -

I'm betting it's the DMF more than the clutch, but the dealership will probably say it's the clutch so they can charge the customer for the work AND then charge Audi under the warranty. Audi then recover the cost by shafting the company that supplied the clutch/DMF assembly.
Genuine warranty faults, they'll try to hide from the customer if they can, they don't want the bad press.
It's ironic that the media dragged Toyota through the mud over one fault, but the German manufacturers fix recall issues silently when the cars come in for service. The owners don't find out, but they can drive away in a car that's had major work carried out.
I'm so glad to be out of the Automotive industry!“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

OP states they do mostly motorway driving. Am I right in thinking driving in the wrong gear ie too low revs can knacker the DMF?
I'm sure a garage mentioned it to me back when I had a diesel.0 -
