What's the best way to insure my 17 year old daughter who is currently learning to drive on my car. I am happy to wait until she has passed her test or until I renew in May, but I understand that premiums will increase once she passes her test. cannot see that telematics would work as I will be driving the car for the majority of the time. Any thoughts or ideas would be welcome. Current quotes with a provisional licence have been 10 times my usual insurance amount ( £1500).

Partly lowering costs as long as you drive like a saint, as soon as you start exceeding speed limits, drive at odd times or accelerate aggressively, you would be getting phone call stating your premiums are going up.
  • A few of my friends used telematics insurance when they first passed and come their 2nd and 3rd years of driving and wanting to swtich to fully comp or 3rd party, many insurers failed to take into account their experience under telematics and basically set them as no years NCD, so it actually worked out more expensive in the long run.
My insurane was £1200 a year when I first passed and to be honest, it wasn't that bad. I went for a policy that allowed me to pay 2 months upfront and the rest over 10 months and it didn't hinder me financially at all, at that was fully comp with just me as a driver on the insurance.

That is an urban myth. Whether their policies were using telematics or not, if they completed a full policy year without making any claims then they would receive a years NCD the same as any other policy. The only time that they wouldn't is if they cancelled the policy before renewal or made a claim.
All matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves.

If you are paying £1,000+ for insurance, plus fuel, plus service, plus road tax, plus repairs, I would just pay for minicabs, and wait till I'm older.

There's a little trick if you are afraid to be raped by the driver.
Take a picture of the car and the driver before you get in, and send it to the cloud or Facebook.
  • Quite funny, I am paying.... wait for it £3,200 for the first year of my car insurance (Corsa)

Without the "blackbox" it would of been £6000!!!!!!!!
  • Why buy a Corsa then? Possibly one of the most expensive cars for a new driver to insure? Pity more don't do some research and buy cars that are less popular with the 'crashing off the road into a ditch' brigade and make the savings!

Not the bright yellow one I hit two years ago, I hope?

This thing shot out from a side road, so I went straight into the passenger door. Fortunately I was only doing 20 miles on a residential road, so his girlfriend was unhurt.

As luck would have it, I had a Telematics box from Insurethebox, which called my mobile within a minute.
The record showed I was clearly on the major road, so the other insurance company had no wriggle room.
I did take some pictures and send them on to be doubly sure.

I wondered how much his premium went up to?

I also wondered if the girlfriend lost her legs, would he still marry her?

My insurance this year was £811 on a Citroen C1.

I did put OH on it as he's eight years older than me and has 11 years NCD. That has been a blessing :)

Funny that as I looked at 10 different cars with the insurance and this was the cheapest to insure by £250...
