Young man need's advice

  • I've read through this entire thread and I am completely baffled.

    1. Investment is high risk. You might hear of people who have made their millions but if you do any sort of background research the vast majority of these people are highly knowledgeable in the field they are investing in (whether that's technology, manufacturing etc.) and not blindly investing in something. And they usually have a bit of money to start off with anyway.

    2. Most people in this world do not walk around with 200 grand in their pocket to buy a house outright. Hence why we have mortgages. Yes, there are a fortunate few who have made their way in life, and are sufficiently wealthy enough to do this. Typically, you will find, these people have either a. inherited this from a parent or family member or b. got a job, whether through having qualifications of not, and worked their way up the career ladder by promotion and hard work. You cannot expect to have £100 a month spare and somehow transform it into £200,000 with no effort.

    3. The only realistic way you are going to achieve your aspirations is by seeking out employment. There is no other feasible way. I am actually quietly outraged (as, evidently, others on this forum are too) that your attitude to work is so negative. Pretty much everyone else in this country has to work to afford a dog, a car, a house, whatever (unless of course they are unable to work due to debilitating disability). If your disability renders you unable to work even part time (sit behind a desk for a few hours a day) how are you going to be able to drive? Would you even be able to obtain a driving licence if your fatigue is that bad? Also, is there no medical help you can receive for this condition?

    4. I don't mind to sound like I'm flaming you. Your attitude towards work just seems ridiculous.

I think your plan is crazy like most people but I would advise against joining the army.

I wouldn't want to join the army myself for various reasons but I am greatful for people who do as we do need the army to protect our liberty.

Whether the OP could be useful in the army or other public services. is of course a different matter, lol. I suppose no troll is ever useful to anyone or anything, but they can be entertaining.

Actually, I think that a troll like this is well in need of national service. However, since he seems to have gone for now, with this name......snore. Just wish the moderators would ban at first posts on these idiots.

It astonishes me that otherwise savvy people can be so easily taken in by this sort of vacuous mischief-making.

I’m very sorry YoungGuy if it shatters your dreams, but investing in shares is not a get rich quick solution. It requires a lot of patience (decades!), and realistic goals.

If you’d asked for suggestions on investing £100 a month to build up a nest egg for your retirement (in about 45 years time…), people would have come back with ideas like tracker funds, unit or investment trusts, etc., and told you that you are very sensible for thinking about it now.

If over 45 years you averaged 5% return a year (realistic, but not guaranteed), I estimate that you’ll make your £200,000 - just in time for your 70th birthday! Unfortunately however, it’s very unlikely to be worth anything like £200k is today… But still a nice return. Sadly your dream house will probably be worth £2million by then..!

The odds of making your £200k in a few years from £100 a month is a fantasy, like winning the lottery.

That's why I was going to reinvest what ever profit I made into some carefully chosen ftse 100 companies or oil futures. I refuse to wait until I'm old just to have a decent quality of life. My dreams are not shattered because there are tons of internet marketers/entrepreneurs that are making money as we speak without even needing to leave their house. It's called the "internet age" where its possible to generate an income stream with just a computer and broadband.

And yet some people here are acting like we are stuck in the 60's where the only means of making money is by hard labor or working a dead end 9-5. Now I'm not saying anything is wrong with that, it's just some people are better suited for it than others. I do intend to give back to society later in other ways.

This is an investment forum and I came here expecting investment advice not to be treated like a child and be told go back to school or "get a job". Some people would rather call me a troll than talk about investments and that's fine.

I don't think 10 years is exactly a "get rich quick" though as it's a considerable amount of time.

Contract for Difference trading or Spread Betting sounds like the sort of thing you’re after.

But, beware the dark side. Once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny, consume you it will…

    Anyway, good luck with that!:D

    Go on then, do something.

I don't think that this savings an investments board is the right place for ideas though as neither is really what you're after. I would like to see a 'one year on' update next Jan though, as it might give us some ideas!

    Good luck.

It's all very well "refusing", but that on it's own isn't going to be much help. I can look at people of my age that have achieved a better quality of life, or a bigger income, or whatever and think I refuse to accept anything less, but that doesn't make it happen.

Well, for that kind of stuff you might be better looking in the "Boost your income" section of the forum - there's a lot on there about blogging for income, that kind of stuff. I get a lot of stuff by email on this subject, and I haven't yet found anything that looks (a) as if it would make me any money, or (b) actually seems to explain precisely what is being marketed, other than internet marketing skills. That might just be my cynical view, or might just be the specific information I see, but nothing there tempts me to jump in.
