"
I don't want to be on benefits forever and would really like a house so I can own a dog and have some freedom. Please point me in the right direction to achieve my goals."
owning a dog gives you NO freedom at all... though lots of satisfaction.
Being with a woman ('just' to help fund house ..... who knows. Disaster now/later/never, only time will tell.
If only the dog could earn money, the choice between the two would be clear !!0 -

I have only been investing for 20 years, and I have not managed it yet, so would love to know, thanks.
I've done very well from early stage technology shares, but only by spending days (yes!) reading through key patents, and researching the key people, to reassure myself that their technology was for real, business plan sound, and corporate governance good.. And quite often, after spending days doing this, I've decided not to invest and have moved on to the next.
I've still got it wrong more often than not, but the winners ...
If people rely on results, press releases, bulletin board chatter, analysts' drivel, and such like, what edge do they have over other investors?I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.
Like all religions, the Faith of the Invisible Pink Unicorns is based upon both logic and faith. We have faith that they are pink; we logically know that they are invisible because we can't see them.0 -
And can I just add that the title of this thread is making my eyeballs bleed. Please can we lose the apostrophe?I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.

To be fair, I felt we could overlook the apostrophe (only just, mind) because of the delightful experience of seeing the word 'advice' in all its glory. :-)I am one of the Dogs of the Index.0 -
you don't have to be a burden on the state now or in the future.
We are the state. OP should get a job and stop wasting our money. Christ, never thought I'd say that, I'm more of a bleeding heart liberal :rotfl:0 -
advice - correct. Need's apple's !0

How do you propose the OP remedies the disability that is perhaps preventing him from holding steady employment?
We hear so much of how benefits recipients have this or that surplus money for this or that "want". Here is a young guy who wants to make use of that surplus by not frittering it away and indeed helping him find a way to make money. If you are angry that the government pays a disability recipient a little too much in your opinion, then I'd suggest that's something you should take up with politicians rather than the recipient.
It's silly bad taste to suggest, as one above did, that the disabled person apply for a job with Virgin's ill fated space test flights.0 -

OP has mentioned not wanting a 'normal' job, not not being able to carry one out. We have no idea what the disability is.0 -

The OP hasn't enlightened us as to what's preventing him gaining employment, but which will enable him to be a genius investor.
And can I just note that I'm not being flippant. I myself am (or was, or whatever) very introverted and pretty much your classic computer nerd. I have learned (by self-applied brute force) to interact more with others and this (inter alia) has allowed me to rise through the ranks of the company that I now work for (via acquisition of a company I founded.)
I have no idea how I'd have faired on the job market even with a degree. And this was back in the 80s when not everyone had one!I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.
