McAfee strike again, I feel like I've just been mugged

2 years ago I bought a new laptop with McAfee on it, last year they asked if I wanted to renew at a cost of £14.99. As it was new and already on there I agreed ( usually go down the Avast route TBH)
on Friday They took out £59.99 without warning or asking, which is 30 days prior to renewal, and I know I should have read the T&C, but as I renewed last time I'm not sure if they were even made available to me.
This is nothing short of being robbed, I need protection from the protectors.
Trying to get a refund is like running a marathon through quick sand and you can't do it over the net, you have to get access to an elusive form which then you have to put your life history on and all your details and all the banks details and then find a fax machine. after this I'm not sure what will happen.
Wish I had never used them and will be going back to Avast.
Surely this borders on illegal practices.

  • As this was without your permission can you not get the bank to refund the money, especially as it was taken early? No doubt McAfee will then get in touch with you.

It would have been with their permission and I am sure the T&C's state they will take the payment 30 days before renewal

I still do not know why in this day and age people pay for this.

Just ask them to cancel the subscription and refund you - they are very good like that.

  • Right, update,
forget trying to get a refund with online chat or by fax, get hold of their phone number and ignoring the discount sales pitch, I have been issued my refund.
That was a lot easier than trying to do it "online" not sure if I can post numbers on here, but I can pass on to anyone that wants it.
The sales rep I spoke to was very helpful and knew how to deal with this with minimum fuss.
