just spent hours trying different price search engines and there all coming back with crazy quotes. whats happened since I checked back in November, I think it was?
I thought with the changes to APD and the cost of oil halving there would be cheaper tickets about.
we are 2 adults and 1 child. we want to fly out on either 22,23,24th of July and come back on 16th of August, though the return can also be a bit flexible.
so far about the cheapest I can get it is £2400, fly with an airline a good airline. I can get it cheaper but then the travel time jumps to 18hrs with stops. I did it once with my missus before we had our son, and it wrecked me, I wouldn't fancy trying to do it with a 6 year old.

What's happened since November? Thousands of people have bought the cheaper tickets, leaving more expensive ones behind.
If you want cheaper than £2400 then you're going to have to get a flight with stops (cheapest seems to be around £1800 via Abu Dhabi). £800 each to fly so far on a direct flight during the school holidays doesn't seem particularly excessive to me.0 -
If you want direct it will cost.
A little holiday in Oslo or Frankfurt and a split flight out of those cities would half the cost. You would need to organise the positioning flights too though.
BA Holidays do have a direct flights from UK and hotel option coming in at under £3,900. No idea if this would help you though.0 -
we did buy our tickets last time in November. then found they were cheaper the following January. doesn't seem the same this year though.
doesn't the cost of fuel affect flight prices like it does car fuel?
also is it cheaper to get flights from UK to say France then book Flights from France to Hong Kong? without a stop over.
I tried something similar before but using a flight search engine and it came out similar to a direct flight. is because the UK government tax it as if it is a direct flight?0 -

Do you want an explanation of the market for air travel, or advice on getting to Hong Kong cheaply?
For the latter: use your search engine to look for flights from Frankfurt, Oslo and so forth to Hong Kong. Then add on the cost of getting from your home to these European cities, and probably a night there before the long-haul flight.0 -
think I might have sorted something acceptable. without any stop overs and worries about connecting flights being missed.
UK to HK via Finland, single stop at Finland.
£1700 approx.0 -

It's looks over £1800 to me, but if you want to pay a little more for quicker flights then yes, Finnair seems like your best option.0 -
