Yes - But the trip has been paid for! will the agents refund the money unless Paris is declared a 'no go' area? These trips are not cheap, the kids really look forward to them and the staff enjoy them too.
you really need to know if that the school are going to cancel the trip if they will refund the money Jane.

sorry - I know I am coming across as very mercenary! but, Paris is on a state of alert unprecedented in its history. but it is no higher than London or most other Major Cities.

The trip destination may be changed. That happened when pupils from our local school were planned to go to Madagascar and there was some sort of scare just before the visit.

Two separate but obviously related issues.

Should they go? Will they get a refund if they don't go?

I'm sure that some people will say they will go if they can't get a refund, but that isn't a true analysis of the personal risk.

Probably the best outcome, though difficult to organise at short notice. Another option is to employ extra security so you feel safer.

It's literally been invaded. And burned to the ground. Repeatedly.
  • Our lot are still going in the summer half term. And I haven't had a single parent call and say they're worried about security/safety. (Mind you, saying that probably means I'll get ten calls about it tomorrow now)

I was in Notre dame at sunset just as they had a choir warming up to perform there a few years ago. I couldn't afford the euros to stay, but the acoustics are awesome (in the original meaning and context of the word); low, soft voices crept around at chest height and then, as the sound waves reinforced one another, the volume increased and they started to swirl around me, being carried higher and higher, until it seemed as the voices were singing from far above me. It's a marvel of acoustic engineering and staggeringly beautiful in the last light of the day.

It would take more than a few nutters (whom seem to be more interested in synagogues and people who draw dodgy caricatures of ethnic groups than the bits that always have machine gun wielding coppers standing around) to put me off going there.
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

To be fair, London has been on high threat level on and off for years.

The decider would, of course, be if the insurer were to say the policy wouldn't be valid etc.

Has the trip actually been cancelled, or is this just school chatter?

It wouldn't stop me either. But it would stop me taking a party of school kids.
