Zero for me. I don't bother with HW in the summer as I have an electric shower and a dishwasher. Though my boiler isn't a combi, I have a tank in the loft.

I wonder when pilot lights were phased out in favour of auto ignition?
    Hi

Probably phased in by manufacturer and model range over quite a long timescale. What I do know is that the floor mounted boiler (with pilot light) we used to have was installed in 1983, whilst at around the same time (1984) we installed GCH in a previous property which included a fan-assisted wall mounted boiler with auto-ignition .... I find it quite interesting that both boilers were from the same manufacturer ...

    Hi

Zero Summer gas usage here too ... we usually use no gas at all from May to September (having solar thermal DHW) - last year was exceptional and none was used from March to September ....

I've a combi boiler (no pilot light), in the summer gas is only used for for cooking and hot water (inc daily shower/bath). From 1st June to 1st Sept (3 full months), 54m3, so approx 600KWh.

I know most people will be using their heating just now but how much gas do use use in the summer for cooking and hot water when using a combi boiler?

I use 18 kWh of gas a day when my heating is off with my present HWC.

    2 people in the house.

2 people and a combi here.

From 1/4/14 to 30/9/14 we used 803kWh of gas for DHW and cooking (but probably a little bit of GCH in there too). Oven is gas, but hob is electric.

    Mart.
Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 28kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.

Thanks, two people is what I expected ....

The reason I asked was that on other threads we're seeing quite a few members with phenomenal gas usage on DHW, particularly related to showers. It's quite refreshing to see usage which falls into line with expectations ... I was starting to think that everyone was using far more energy on DHW than us (and most of ours is free) and I was going loopy by thinking that there must be plenty of waste ...

I think a lot of people don't realise that standing in a shower for 10 minutes or more can get through 100-150 litres of water -at least half of which has to be heated.

Most combis are going at full rate (25-35kwh) to heat the water so a couple of ten minute showers everyday can soon use a lot of energy.

Reducing it to 5 minutes will halve the energy consumption and fitting a flow restrictor or eco shower head could save another half.

Rinsing or washing stuff (or your hands) in hot running water also uses up a lot more than you realise especially if you run off a gallon or two before it gets hot. That leaves a gallon or two of wasted hot water to cool down in the pipework. It might aid the heating in the winter but it's a waste of energy in the summer.
