Parking Charge Notice - incorrect vehicle registration number

Hi,

I received a Parking Charge Notice yesterday. The notice is printed out and has an incorrect vehicle registration number on it. I've read the newbies notice and parking guide and searched the posts but I can't find guidance on whether or not I need to appeal or just ignore it as the registration number is wrong? My vehicle is a company vehicle.

I had originally intended to appeal on the grounds that the sign 2 cars down from me has been vandalised and therefore could not be read. Also that the charge of £100 is excessive.

Can anyone offer advice?

Thanks

Normally I'd say ignore, as they will time out on timeframes for delivering the Notice to Keeper, which gives you an additional appeal bullet. However, as this is a lease vehicle, I'd suggest you appeal, because if they do have a photo and later retry to serve the Notice to Keeper (which is fairly likely) then they'll send it to the lease company.

However, can you let us know which parking company?

  • Hi, ticket was attached to the car windscreen.

Company was The UK Parking Patrol Office

    Ah, Steve Cheetham.

Get a screen dump of this page:

Highlight the sentence at the bottom-
    Why is there no charge?
Parking Patrol generates revenue by the administration of parking charge tickets. This means that you do not pay for the problem to be solved, the offenders do!

Send an appeal based on the following points:

    1. Insufficient signage
    2. The sum sought is not representative of any loss, and is - by your own website's admission - designed to generate revenue.
    3. You have no legal standing on the land.

Then come back if/when he rejects this, it should be easily defeated at POPLA (the independent appeal body).

There's also a fair chance that no contract has been formed. What is the EXACT name of the company on the signs and paperwork? He may be using a trading name without disclosing his identity as a sole trader.

  • If they are still with POPLA, as most are jumping ship like rats from a sinking ship I would go with Manxs advice

Have you checked with your company/fleet manager to ascertain whether you or the lease company is noted at DVLA as the keeper? (I have done likewise with my company and await a response).

The reason I say this is ... my colleague has had various parking and speeding notices in the past, and has had a company car for many years. He says all these notices have gone direct to him. Indeed when he was once stopped for speeding and the police checked their data (via DVLA I assume) it came back as saying the name of the lease company AND his name/address.

But if in any doubt ... appeal the NtD.

And yes, UKPPO are BPA members.

Their website declares they are BPA members.

  • Correspondence will go to my employer and then forwarded on to me.

So is the incorrect reg number a 'red herring'? And do I mention it when I write to UKPPO?

Also, just noticed that ticket says I was parked at Saltra, Elmira Way when I was parked much farther down the street by the side of hoardings around a construction site. Is that relevant?

    Thanks for all the advice
