Brand new phone with wrong charger in box

I received a "brand new" Samsung Galaxy Note 4 on Saturday, from affordable mobiles. The box appeared to be brand new/unopened and it had the stickers on that you have to break in order to open the box, etc... inside everything appeared brand new in cellophane.

The first odd thing I noticed was that there was no "quick start guide" - which I thought was strange as I'd picked a note 4 up from carphone warehouse a few days ago (which I had to return), and it had a guide in that one.

What annoyed me though, was that the charger in the box is just a bog standard travel charger instead of the adaptive fast charger that should come with the note 4 ( which allows much faster charging).

I called Samsung and they confirmed that the charger I had received was incorrect, and that I should have received the fast charger - but they said I need to take it up with affordable mobiles.

Just wondered if it's common practice for third party suppliers to open mobiles and repackage them as "new" or whether this is likely to be an error in production? To be fair I haven't had a chance to speak to affordable mobiles so can't provide their response yet.

Wouldn't mind but the adaptive fast chargers are exexpensive and hard to get hold of officially.

For some retailers it is common.
    Demand a replacement.

Then they will 'repackage' your phone and sent it again as 'new' to some less knowledgeable customer...

I don't particularly want a replacement phone just because I have the wrong charger - that would mean returning a perfectly good phone at my expense, etc... I just want the correct charger!

I've spoken to affordable mobiles and they said that this isnt the first time this has happened (surprise surprise )
they have said they will call me back - will wait and see

As it's their fault they have to pay all expenses.
  • Just wanted to give an update on this - for anyone thinking of using Affordable Mobiles.

I called Affordable Mobiles as soon as the phone arrived to say that the charger was wrong. They said that it was a known issue, and that they had received a "batch" of note 4s with the incorrect charger, and would send everyone affected with the correct charger when it came into stock. They confirmed all of this in an email to me around 3 weeks ago.

Since then I've heard nothing, and now they won't reply to any of my emails.

So a word of caution to anyone thinking of buying from them. They were ok with me until something went wrong.....
  • Another update - not that anyone is interested(!), but I feel obliged to say that affordable mobiles came through in the end, and posted me the right charger.

It's a bit sneaky of them, the adaptive charger is quite expensive to buy separately, they are probably substituting the normal charger and selling the adaptive chargers as accessories for twice the price.

If only the occasional buyer notices and they then have to supply it, it's still a lucrative little money earner for them selling all the adaptive chargers from buyers who don't notice.
