I bought my I phone charger from e bay and it has been serving it's purpose since. Yesterday however when I plugged in the lead a message on my I phone stated it didn't recognise the charger as it wasn't a genuine apple product. How can this be?

because from ebay it wont be genuine and could actually be a fire risk.

You can get that sign anytime. If you remove the charger and put it back in again it should be ok.0 -

Iphone accessories don't need to be apple. You can buy sound systems that have docks that will dock an ipod that work fine. My apple charger lasted me precisely 6 weeks.
Poundworld do a range of Iphone accessories including docking stations. There may be some non apple products that are fire risks, but certainly not all.0 -

You can also get USB phone charging cables from £land/world.
Connect one to a mains-USB adapter
or a car USB adapter (also available from £land)
If you want to be ready for anything, get yourself a USB multi adapter. :cool:0 -
I get this a lot - and as my kids can't seem to make the charger leads last more than a few months, I use my local phone repair shop ones at about £5 - seem to last longer than the £ shop ones.
The fire risk0 -
The "new" lighting connector cheapos do seem vastly inferior.
You don't need to spend a fortune but the Poundland ones seem to be a false economy - in my experience.0 -

I don't see Apple Lightning plug on that.

The cable can not be a fire risk it only carries 5v at 2amps, the charger maybe a fire risk but the OP hasn't mentioned that.
Please stop scaremongering about cables.0 -

I don't know about the quality of the charging cables at £land/world, as I haven't bought any (I have a multi-phone adapter), but I've been using a £land car USB adapter for quite a while, and it's still going strong.0 -

The cables are certainly very poor quality and fail quickly.0
