Might be worth trying a new battery though there not that expensive

    It's a "Non-Replaceable" Battery.

Meaning I have to take the phone apart to replace it.

That's a shame maybe a local repair shop in your area maybe do it for £30
  • For a battery that gets charged up every few days, 2 years is a reasonable life.
On average, a lithium ion battery will be down to about 20% to 25% of its original capacity after 2 years and this can happen even quicker depending on how the battery has been used.
Discharging the battery to less than about 5% of its capacity can drastically shorten its useful life, as can keeping it on charge when no required.

If it is the battery that has given up on your phone, I would just buy a new one and forget about trying to claim on the warranty or SOGA.

I can do it myself, it doesn't look too difficult. I'm just not sure where to get a battery from. I don't want to risk getting a counterfeit one off ebay as they can be dangerous.

Wouldn't a battery lose charge gradually though. Not go from one day having 1 day stand by time and then the next day only having 7 hours as mine did.

    Generally, yes.
But the symptoms you describe sound like the battery dailing.

Although the batteries generally fail gradually over time, a lot of the time they can just die outright or start to perform very poorly very quickly. It's deffo not unheard of.

Battery Anker brand from Amazon i would try first .

If you believe that the battery should have lasted longer than 24 months plus then you are at liberty to pursue the vendor under SOGA .

Yes, but as the cells gradually lose their capacity, one of them could suddenly die. If this one dead cell was internally shorted, it would cause the rest of them to discharge far quicker than normal.
As you mention overheating, this is more than likely to be the cause as a shorted cell would get hot as the other cells are discharging into it.

What you could do to see if this is the case is to fully charge the phone then remove the battery. ( I know this involves taking the phone apart), and leave the battery out for a day or so.
If the battery is self discharging, then it will still get warm when out of the phone and when you refit it, it will show a low state of charge despite not having been used.
