Hi, hope some kindly souls can provide some advice regarding the Duoheat radiators and optimum method of economic operation.
We have recently moved into an all electric property (there is no mains gas in the area). It is a 3 bed (timber-framed) detached bungalow. Energy supplier is Ovo on Economy 10.
According to the instructions it is stated in bold letters that "For Duoheat to operate correctly, both electricity supplies must be switched on at all times". I appreciate that the supplies are for the background (storage) and the comfort (radiant) element. However, to the simple minded, it doesn't necessarily seem that the radiant supply "must" be switched on as the storage element seems relatively proficient and is topped up at the afternoon cheap rate. If it slightly cools down in the evening then a jumper would seem to be the order of the day. So, it doesn't seem that the radiant supply "must" be left on, but just wondered if I was missing something.
Similarly, in the "non occupancy" section of the instructions it is stated that the "background" and "comfort" settings should be at their lowest. All well and good for the background / stored heat but I can't see why the radiant panel needs to be clicking on and off at day rate cost. Again, perhaps I'm missing something here.
Finally, the instructions indicate "the radiator will automatically adjust to suit seasonal changes in temperature. During mild weather background heat may not operate as Comfort Heat will be sufficient". To state the obvious, how does it know what the seasonal changes are? Isn't it less cost effective for the Comfort Heat to be going on and off (presumably there is a thermostat) at day rates rather than using night rate stored heat?
Any help gratefully received.

Whilst I understand the point you are making, is it not probable that the 'daytime' electricity needs to be on for control of sensors regulating storage heating output during the day?
If you contact the technical department of Dimplex they will give you an answer

P.S.
Wasn't aware that OVO catered for Economy 10??0 -
Have been with Ovo for some time and checked the company could supply the property before we made the move.0
