Yup, this is Aberdeen - and Shiprow is part of the "Gold Zone" CPZ, which because of the historic nature of the area was one of the first CPZs in Scotland to be allowed to dispense with many of the normal lines and signs within the zone. Loading/unloading areas and the few bits of usable parking are marked by a change in the cobbles between road/pavement and round "bays" - it really isn't very clear at all.

An appeal on lack of lines is not going to get you very far, esp as the stretch outside the museum/opposite the Ibis does have pretty prominent not "at any time" signs all along its entire length.

If an appeal on signage is going to work, you will need to check that the "Shiprow Zone"/No parking at any time signs are intact on the entrance from Trinity Quay (from Market St is now pedestrian) - and given the nature of Aberdeen traffic, the chances of them having had a whack is quite good.

Otherwise, get ready to grovel as suggested above - This isn't the worst parking regime in Scotland and my successes against them far outweigh my failures.

All I can do is tell the truth and that is that I never noticed the lines, genuinely...!? And go on to say I was parked to collect items left in my gym locker.

Waste of time putting that. Totally irrelevant. Stick to the fact that you were unfamiliar with the area, it was dark and because there were no lines you failed to spot the restriction but you would be aware of it in future.

Worth a punt but be prepared for it to be rejected.
