Aldi - incompetence and failure?

  • My Aldi is very much busier than it used to be, but if you go early on (9am ish) then it's okay. It also has the advantage of bring the tine that my local Aldi does their reductions!

I have been shopping at Aldi since our branch opened 22 years ago.
Kudos for being one of the first! You must be v rich if you've been saving for all these years!
Plus, it's very, very rarely that I find the shelf bare of an item I am wanting. My only complaint would be that it takes me longer to shop there nowadays because it is so much busier but, for the money I save, I am prepared to put up with that.
As with Lidl, the Sunday / Thursday special offers go fast though, so I found it pays to get there early and also go to the right branch (my nearest is always surrounded by bargain hunters, I have to go to one that is not near a town centre to get lucky). Yes the car parks are busy but a bit of patience doesn't harm, the turnover is fast - with no coffee facilities / on-site distractions people are usually and out as soon as they've shopped.

Instead of ranting on here, why not write/email/call their head office so that the people who NEED to know, do.

So many people here in England complain to everyone else but the person/people that they need to.
Well, I am just being realistic.
If it's an isolated case I don't see much to complain about.
It's a relatively small store (90 parking spaces, ~1400sq.m.=15000sq.ft. - total area of the building - I used google earth). I appreciate that with such small space managing stock can be challenging, and there is no point in stopping the campaign because of a few small stores that are physically incapable of coping with temporary higher demand.

I refuse to drive to the nearest store which is 10 min walk away as its always full, apart from 8pm.(Store A)

Store B is an Aldi in a small town about 4-5 miles from here - which was the nominated store to use when the former was closed for refurb - as the flyers in the junk mail gave us £5 off £30 to use during the 3-4 days of closure. The car park is always full. I am happy to park in one of the three car parks which charges a mere 20p for three hours - even has card paying facilities just in case you don't have 20p in loose change

Store C is 2.5 miles from here - quite a large car park. Even been on a Saturday at 2pm and there were a quarter spaces left. Though the car park in front of the store is full, the side bit - yes you guessed it further to walk was empty.

Store D is about 6 miles from here, similar sized car park to C, but I only visit it when I have been visiting a certain friend or shopping centre as its out of my way. I am surprised there has not been an accident by Aldi as you have to go right around the roundabout, to go down the slip road which is also shared with a pub chain pub. I have seen drivers driving on the roundabout the wrong way just to save driving around 80% of a roundabout. Plus off this roundabout, there is a large industrial park so lorries are always on the roundabout

Store E is 3.5 miles from here and is on a retail park with 6-7 other shops. The car park around Aldi is always full and park in a parking space away from Aldi. I don't mind walking a trolley further and returning it as its exercise! Aldi are not like the big 4, have trolley bays dotted around as that means employing trolley retrieval staff.

I say store B has the most gaps I have seen recently.

From what I have read, Aldi need to invest in more staff, better stock control systems etc otherwise they will become the victims of their own success.

The only issue on our local Aldi cars park is that people seem to forget how to park as soon as they drive on to them! Cars left half out of spaces jutting into the narrow road; horzontally dumped instead of re-adjusting, so that you dare not try to park next to them; or two cars parked on the lines each side making a middle space impossible to use.

It's the same at both of the stores for some reason that I just cannot fathom.

Stock levels are always good though.

    .

Pretty much the same in other car parks I use, there's always someone who is selfish and can't park.

Both my local lidl and aldi were bare this weekend. I was surprised at the amount of empty shelves. I guess they they need a re-jig now christmas is out of the way.

To be fair, poor stock control has been an issue in most of the supermarkets I use. Neither Tesco nor Morrisons are immune from it. The only one I find reliable is Waitrose.
  • one of our local stores is dire and always looks like its been ram raided and cleared!.....the other is really good and apart from the odd times at christmas or something it is always very well stocked even when it seems to be filled to bursting permanently.

Really? I have 4 Aldis that I can get to fairly easily and whilst I agree the car parks are not on the scale of Asda or Tesco etc, they are as large or larger than the 3 Lidls near me.

Strange but in my area the 3 Lidl car parks are bigger and the 2 Aldi's are a lot smaller. Suppose it depends on what land area and situation they buy up.
