Head gasket replacement can be done for £350-400 if you look around but even then I wouldn't bother on a car of that value

I bought it for £1500 and it's got 50k on the clock and had a few new things on it when I got it so I'm hoping to squeeze some more life out of it yet. Fingers crossed it's not the head gasket!

on 3 occasions I have had my car show the oil and stop lights with the engine overheating. On the Thursday, the water was topped up to maximum but by Friday night it was below minimum so I topped it up. In total I've done about 3 miles today before I took it to the garage and the water was empty again. I left my car with the guy to do tests, and he left it running for an hour and put cardboard underneath to see where it's leaking and he said not a single drop appeared on it.
Could the recent apparent level drops be air pockets being filled after running the cooling system dry?. Does this car have bleed screws?.

After running the car for an hour had the level dropped?

Was last July the last time the levels were checked?

Did the mechanic kick the tyres to check their pressure?

Does the heater blow hot? If it doesn't the water pump has fell to pieces internally and water not circulating on the Clio also does the radiator fan cut in when it's supposed to they can be faulty also check the carpets see if they aren't damp and the heater matrix isn't leaking

My Ford KA kept on losing water and there was no sign of anything leaking and the HG was all ok.

After some searching (on the WWW) I found there could be an issue with the coolant expansion tank where a hair line crack could appear on one of the casting seams. It would only appear when the car was hot and hence under pressure.

£12 later and half an hour of my time and the issue was solved.

When the car is warm, put your ear near to the expansion tank and listening for any hissing. I MUST STRESS if you do this please go carefull that you dont burn yourself and make sure the engine is off. *** This is done at your own risk so please go carefull ***

You'd be best starting a new thread, but when I've had similar in the past, it's been the starter motor.
