If I was milking the system I would be doing 16 hours ie the minimum. As for me having 6 kids-my partner was working when we were together -however he cheated on me (for 2 years as it happens)and left me and as my youngest was 1 at the time I wasn't in any fit state to look for work. I got a job for 20 hours a week in the evenings when my youngest was 18 months and did that for 2 years, then I got a job in a shop but damaged my foot working there and it has taken almost a year to feel better. As soon as it did I found a job. I could have stayed on income support till May as that's when my son is 5. So HOW exactly am I milking the system??

So you've never claimed for child benefit for any of the 6 kids and never claimed any working tax or income support benefits? That is good to hear someone supporting themselves and their kids instead of expecting others to do it:)

How many dads involved for the 6 kids?

Yes for Child benefit-no for working tax as he earnt too much. I had income support when he left (well I kicked him out after I found out he'd been cheating for 2 years). I got working tax credit once I found the evening job as it was 20 hours.
I don't want to put my entire life story on here but 2 dads-4 with my ex husband and 2 with the second partner and yes it was incredibly stupid to have 2 more children after I got divorced and met the second one and believe me some days I wish I could go back in time-not because I don't love my children but because life sucks as a single parent with so many kids. I can't buy them what they want, I can't take them on holiday. I'm not qualified to earn more than minimum wage and so even if I did 60 hours a week I still wouldn't be able to afford these things. I don't smoke or drink and quite honestly I wish I knew how certain people in my area manage to have flash cars and tv's when they've never worked and have no desire to. My eldest is at uni now and has worked since she was 16 at weekends-her company arranged a transfer for when she is at uni so she is working all the way through her degree. My 16 year old just had her first xmas contract but sadly didn't get taken on as a permanent staff member but is applying for other weekend jobs. They've both actually said they don't want kids at all because they've seen how tough it is which is quite sad. Anyway I'm rambling now. No doubt you'll have something to say about how I'm still a sponger for claiming tax credits-I wish I could earn enough to not have to claim anything-maybe once I do some further training in my job and go fulltime I will be able to stop claiming benefits totally.

Can I just add that I was so happy to have started working again and doing 25 hours with 5 kids still at home and now I just feel like a worthless moron who can't even support her kids by herself. I won't be posting on this particular part of the forum again.

I definitely don't think that you are scum, unfortunately there will always be grot bags out there who have zero emotional intelligence and can't tell a sponger from someone who's just had a bit of a bad luck- you are exactly the type of person this country should be supporting and I wish you lots of luck. OP is still appalling though!

Please don't think like that!! Sounds to me like you are one of the people doing their best under difficult circumstances. Please don't think that everyone thinks you are scum. I certainly don't - it sounds to me like you're doing great!
