. . . My guess is that if the Coop offer is going to change it is unlikely to be worse (higher) than it is today as wholesale gas and oil prices are falling.
You might be right but I wouldn't be too sure about it. Co-op put a limit of 10,000 customers for their Fair & Square March 2016 tariff so I think it unlikely its replacement will any cheaper. One to watch, though.

It is likely to be 14 days before the Co-op advises SP of your switching intentions so if your SP account is in debit, try to settle the account before then to avoid the possibility of any objection to the switch.

If the Co-op offers a better deal before the 14-day cooling-off period expires then you can cancel the current switch and apply for the new one.

Sounds like win-win to me. I hope all goes well.

I too am with SP and will be looking to change to the Co-op. The 49 days came up on 10th Jan, however, if I switch and the energy company reduces their costs, as E.on have just done, will that then be for new customers or will it be those who have just switched in the past few weeks as well?

When your fixed tariff ends you will be transferred to SP's standard variable tariff unless you switch. If SP reduce the price on their standard variable then you will automatically be included. That said, you don't really want to be on that tariff at all, if possible.

If SP reduces the prices of it's fixed tariff(s) then that/they will be in the form of a new tariff which you can opt for when it is launched unless you have already switched and the cooling-off period has expired.

Hope I understood your question properly.

And there it was - gone!

Just out of interest, did you get your notice from SP before the Co-op Fair & Square Mar 2016 disappeared?

Thanks to the contributors of this thread, I will be in the same boat next month, currently on the March 2015 fixed price offer. I guessed the Coop deal would be gone by the time I can switch so was looking for info about when I can start the switch process and this has answered my question very nicely.:)

A couple of points of interest arise here.

    1. The Co-op Fixed March 2015 did not have any early-termination fees in the contract so you could have switched, and still can switch, at any time. That's what I did.

    2. Even if there were early-termination fees when you switch supplier, it is probable that the Co-op would not impose them if you just changed tariffs with the Co-op.

    Edit
The new Co-op Fair & Square March 2016 v2 looks to be marginally cheaper than the original. The early-termination fees have also been reduced from £30 per fuel to £25 per fuel.

If you're interested then you can switch straight-away from the Fixed March 2015.

My notification from SP arrived by email this afternoon, I think today is 42 days before end of fix. I started the switch before notification, 6 days ago.

Not heard anything from Cheap Energy Club since their initial email on 11th and nothing at all from co-op. And nothing from SP acknowledging a switch yet.

I don't use CEC myself but it is likely you won't hear anything more until the 14-day cooling-off period has expired then the Co-op usually takes about 3 weeks to complete the switch. They should ask you for final meter readings in about 4 - 5 weeks from the date of your request to switch.

Unfortunately, the Co-op hasn't yet signed up to 17-day switching so 4 - 6 weeks is likely. In my experience, the Co-op needs a bit of reminding to keep them on the ball; I would contact them on Monday to confirm they have received your switch request (0800 954 0693).
