Has anyone used Cater Allen? I know they are part of Santander who I read are not the best.

if you don't have any substantial savings it's not a bank for you. it's for wealthy individuals.
You only need to deposit £5000 to open their Sterling Bank Account: https://www.caterallen.co.uk/sterling-bank-account-for-individuals
I'm not sure Cater Allen's offering is particularly competitive, compared to say Santander's 1-2-3 account; but I can see the appeal of using a mysterious private bank.0 -
I am more interested in there foreign currency accounts.0

a neighbour of mine uses Cater Allen for currency.. and seems very happy with them.
you need £5k to open the sterling account.. their private account requires £100k to be left with Cater Allen, which is beyond the reach of many.
i'm not sure that criticism of Santander's service is 'old news'.. they are still poor, according to many. but there is no doubt that S123 has carved a key role for itself, being the only decent-interest-generating current account that will stretch that up to £20k. highest elsewhere is £5k, is that right?0 -
I've used CA business banking and it was OK. Nothing spectacular.
If you are after private banking I'd sooner consider Investec Voyage, should the perks attract, or Handelsbanken for personal service.0 -

yes, which is why I said it's only worth it if you have substantial savings. it's a private bank that specialises in wealth management.
for less, stick with a high street bank and better interest rates.0 -

I'd recommend Barclays Premier, Citigold, HSBC Premier, Investec or any other bank rather than Cater Allen.0
