Milk and More - Rant

Options
My direct debit payment was due to go out on 15th of each month according to my online account. On Monday I received my latest invoice stating payment would be taken on 9th January. I complained and the response was they applied for it on the 8th. My bank account is set up to cover payments as and when I know they are due so there will probably be a bank charge for the returned M&M direct debit as my money does not go into the bank until 15th. No more Milk and More orders from me.

  • Cancel the DD before it hits the bank and the bank won't charge you.

If they only applied for the money on the 8th then with DD its impossible for it to go out of your account on 9th as it takes a min 4 days

this is how a DD is processed

    Payment created
    8 Jan 2015
    Payment submitted to Bacs
    9 Jan 2015
Payment scheduled to leave customer's account
    13 Jan 2015
Payment confirmed and received by DD provider
    14 Jan 2015
    Paid out to merchant
    16 Jan 2015

I have just checked my bank account online and payment was returned unpaid to M&More on the 8th so I expect I will get a £6 charge. This is more than annoying when my payment date is and has always been the 15th of each month.

How much was the DD for?

    Just under £30
  • Might be worth contacting your bank and explaining that the agreement with milk and more was for the DD to be paid on the 15th (when there is money in the account) and ask them to waive the fee...if you don't go into unauthorised overdraft regularly then they may be willing to do it.

I've only gone overdrawn once and it was due to a similar circumstance and my bank waived the fee when I explained and asked them to.

They have to give you 10 working days notice of change of date for a DD under the DD guarantee.

I would contact your bank and tell them you are making a claim under the DD guarantee and ask them to reimburse your fees as they are a direct result of M&M breaking the terms of the guarantee.

You'll still have to pay your M&M bill, but you stand a better chance of getting your fees back if you do it that way.

Cancel the DD and go to the shops so you can control what you spend and when?

Giraffe69, may you never get health problems that stops you going to the shops. I am house bound. Do you think I would be paying M & More prices if I could get to the shops?
