Agree with Susancs.
I had the same issue with Amazon Prime, but luckily their customer service is brilliant and they cancelled it straight away and refunded the charge.
They have technically done nothing wrong and yes you may get a refund by keeping on at them..
I took my mistake as a lesson learned and now when signing up to any trials I always set reminders on my phone the day before I need to cancel.
I had a GS card once and did actually find that it saved me a lot of money, but due to cutting down on eating out I decided not to continue it.0 -
This has happened with me as well, I did not receive any reminders, only one fine day find a new card in post to which I replied and request cancellation. Then also I wasn't aware that they have already taken the money.
Now I am making sure that not others should face the same trouble please don't go ahead unless you really eat out other than SAT /SUN as this card only gives you discounts other than weekends. Also I could not find any way of cancelling my membership in advance.
Now they have no ombudsman regulation. Or can anyone help me to find where to complain??In September I signed up for 3month trial with gourmet society for £1 I never used the card, then I noticed £39.95 missing from my bank at the beginning of January and gourmet society had taken their yearly subscription money, iv emailed to ask for it back as I don't want to carry on and was unaware this was going to happen after receiving no emails even tho they say they sent some but iv done a search in my inbox and have come up with nothing I also received nothing in the post and don't even have a New card! They are refusing to give me my money back, I'm waiting for a supervisor to ring me Monday to discuss this further. But to help me out they have taken me off any further subscriptions so next year they won't take my money!!! Woop woop! What are my rights? Help please! Iv told them I'm not letting this drop until my money is back in my account!0 -
Same here. Normally I'm really good at setting my reminders to cancel but I've had too much on recently, forgot to set a reminder and (so they say, according to their email receipt records) missed the renewal. So I've now had £40 taken from my account by Gourmet Society, when I never used it once in the three-month period I was wooed into with a £1 Nectar deal.
The same happened with an FT subscription auto-renewing last week after a month's trial. The FT could have quibbled but gave me a refund, no questions asked - and really impressed me with that service, meaning I will still be considering a subscription in the future.
Compare that to Gourmet Society - they quoted dates and times of communications, said it was on auto-renew and I had seen the email so... tough, basically. No goodwill there whatsoever. They came across as utterly uninterested and just happy to take my money.
I think they're foolish - I haven't found the service useful as a single person and can't see myself using a membership I'm now stuck with for a year - it's brand-damaging if someone spends a year complaining about a service they don't want!!! But I might have been using it again in the future. Now I'll never use them again and am taking the time to complain in multiple locations.
I appreciate the onus was on me to cancel but where's your goodwill and good customer service, Gourmet Society? How about offering a pro-rata cancellation?0
