The list was for your benefit as well as in 'literally'(there's that English problem again) hundreds of them you state they're well designed etc....the engine is well designed, excellent in fact, but the rest of it leaves a lot to be desired. Maybe I'm used to better than you and I expect better as well....do a bit of reading(if you can) and you'll see I'm not the only one.
I know your reply was to colino, but I really wasn't intending for my threat to start a slanging match so lets keep the insults to a minimum please
As I said, I appreciate your input, as I do everyone else's on here and it is useful to know about potential issues before they arise.
I don't know my plans for the car at the moment. Depending on finances, I may only be keeping it for 5 months until my insurance runs out, at which point, I may sell this and get something newer.
However, if the colour grows on me and if the new headlights/rear lights make a big improvement, I may end up keeping it til it becomes completely uneconomical to repair...at least the mint condition 17" Sport Alloys might get me a decent price on ebay haha.0 -
To be fair, all four of my E39s have been exceptionally well put together, and I've never had buttons missing or falling off. As with most things, you get good ones and less-good ones.0

Me either. But good to see Toyota have addressed the missing rear brakes issue on the yaris.0 -
Dave, not to be condescending (that's talking down to you, save you googling), I'm not sure what you want, is it advice on cars or English lessons? Perhaps if you read beforehand (or you probably still haven't yet) what you have cut n'pasted from the 'net, you included a list, and I quote, "Spare parts to keep on hand:”. Then came the long and expensive list of parts.
You posted the info. should the OP follow it or not?
I see you have a problem with the oft used word, literally. By all means substitute "approximately" if it helps you scan and understand my post more easily, with the unspecified number, exactly isn't the appropriate substitute..0 -
OP a really useful aid for identifying both your car (from chassis number) and any weird looking bits from their exploded diagrams, have a look at realoem.com. There are also a host of BMW clubs and e39 specific ones too.
You are right about the value (with good tyres!) of unmolested 17" and above, uncracked BMW alloys. Smashed up e39s are often worth more just for their wheels, tyres and headlamps than the running, total car itself!0 -
So how you getting on with your BMW?
Did you change the lights from orange to white, because I've been thinking of doing this to my 528i and was wondering if it's worth doing.
Thanks0 -

OP is getting rid for a smaller, more economical automatic.
Is it worth changing lights to white for any functional reason? No.
Do you want to do it for aesthetic purposes? If so, then do.0 -
