O/S Daily Friday 9th January 2015
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

Morning everyone
Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x
Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.
Still dark, but looks damp underfoot and very blustery.
DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 up and getting ready for work.
Dinner last night was gammon, egg, onion sauce, new potatoes, peas and mushrooms. Not sure about tonight but will be something quick and easy with chips for the menfolk, possibly jacket potato/salad with a mushroom omelette – nothing to difficult. When DH gets home from work we need to go out and fill his car with diesel – he can’t be trusted with bank/credit cards – he puts’ card in the machine then either inputs the wrong pin number or can’t remember it at all! After too many times of cash machines swallowing his card – he now doesn’t carry one, he either has some cash or we go out together and I look after the monetary side of things!
Yesterday I spent the morning at the training course, then went straight to DH’s work to get the new photos re-signed for DS2’s passport, then went straight to the GPO to get it re-checked then posted off, stopped off on the way to drop the sample book back in at the shop (we’re looking at getting a new blind for over our patio doors – the sun lays right into the room through them in the afternoons, so have a vertical blind in there which for the most of the time we keep shut as it shines straight onto the back of our 1 of our leather sofa’s), the new blind is a replacement of the one outside – not cheap though. I also spoke to the travel company and our holiday bookings are underway – ferries and overnight stays are booked and deposit paid, they will send us the bill and intiniary in the post – it’s not going to be cheap but looks excellent, I’ve managed to find a brochure with the sites in that we’re staying at and they look great. Did also manage to get several loads of washing done and some in the TD, have re-loaded DW this morning and WM is now on, I have a load ready to go in the TD too.
I’ll be heading into town shortly to visit the bank and building society, then food shopping, and then to get on with washing, drying and ironing, and housework, really must get on with it.
Have good Fridays’ everyone x
Take care x
Keep safe and well x

Well pleased to report that the grumpy bear has left the building and i have my old DH back. The dentist he saw yesterday was brilliant with him and not badly priced either.
DD2 has been told by the boss at work that they want to change her temp contract for an apprenticeship so she is happy.
Early finish for me today at work so debating if i will pop to market on way home (depends on the weather as i dont drive)
If not i will come home and bake some bread as we are running low now.
Must do some washing tonight otherwise i will be doing it all weekend.

Morning All
Ooh, so windy here! I have been up since about 4.30 listening to things rattling about outside, next doors greenhouse appears to be flapping about quite a lot so I think that has made lots of noise. Of course the recycling and food waste bins were emptied yesterday so they are probably all over the place too.
Washing going on airers, DW emptied, must hoover round when I get home, hoping DD cleans and tidies her room. Started knitting the second sleeve on cardi I have been working on since last November! Forgot about it and then got confused with the very simple pattern. Managed 1 sleeve, just need to get the other one the same.
Take care today in this awful weather, stay safe. XX0 -
Good morning everyone :hello:
Am in need of much coffee today as I didn't sleep for very long last night. I had a sad phone call from a friend yesterday and I couldn't sleep properly for worrying about her. Anyway, I've decided that I will see if I can help her and that involves me going to her house. My eldest daughter said she will run me over there so I don't have to get taxis there and back. All I have to do is stay awake now till she comes.
I decided to fill the hours this morning by meal planning, sorting out the inside freezer and reading a couple of cookery books. I'm a bit bored with cooking the same kind of meals over and over again so I have chosen a few new ones from the Hairy Dieters books to try out on the family this week. Today, however, we are having liver and onions as it's a cold and windy day and I need something comforting to eat.
I'm looking forward to the weekend even though I don't have much planned. I'm going to try to go to church and then it will have been three times I will have been out this week which is a bit of a record for me. I am determined to get on top of my panic and fear with the aim of just going out without thinking about it. I need to ring the chemist to see if my meds are in too as I am running short of them.
Well that's all from me today, I hope you all have a marvellous day whatever you are up to, take care xx0 -
Morning all,
Weather is very calm here and quite mild very odd ! stay safe those with high winds
Off to work again but at least its Friday, off to the other site today which I prefer as its closer to home and much busier which makes the day fly by.
Something with mince for dinner tonight will leave dd in charge, she is still here as not back to uni till Monday, so she can make it ! possibly spag bol.
Jackie O how about mincemeat flapjack ? make a flapjack mix as normal then put half of it in a tin, then a layer of mincemeat then the rest of the flapjack, its really lovely xx
Right better get on, really looking forward to my weekend away with dd
Have good days all xx0 -
Morning all and what a morning it is! Bins rattling around all night and on looking out this morning, as best as I can see in the dark, there looks to be lots of rubbish blowing about.
Sistercas hope your MIL has a wonderful birthday and everyone enjoys the party.
Dumpling, oh there is always sad news for someone isn't there. I hope things are not as bad as they seem at the moment. Your friend is lucky to have a good friend like you.
DH has an appointment at the doctors this morning re his endoscopy and I am feeling a bit churned up about it. It's a regular check and the best we hope is no change. Later this month he has hospital appointments at Leeds re his recent scans and I am already worrying about that. DH is a take things as they come kind of chap but I have always been a worrier and too old to change now!
Well I am proud to say I stuck to my list at Aldi yesterday but it was a different story when I went to Home Bargains - just for toilet rolls allegedly!! I got really excited when I spotted they had tinned cherry tomatoes back on the shelves (I am easily pleased!) but whereas they were 3 for £1 they are now 49p each. That's still cheaper than elsewhere so loaded my trolley in case they stop selling them again!! One or two other bits caught my eye but I didn't go overboard pleased to say.
Have a good day everyone, take care and hope you haven't much damage with the wind."If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning all,
Cat got me up at 7 wanting breakfast:rotfl: sitting here with a cuppa.
Need to go out for bread and milk this morning. Luckily I only have to go over the road.
Want OH to come and choose new carpet for the sitting room tomorrow. Have had it decorated, new furniture and curtains, just need a carpet now( we have laminate at the mo) It hadn't been decorated for 10 years and I was left some money from a relative, so I used that. :T
Spaghetti and meatballs tonight.
Must catch up on my recorded telly too.
Have a good day. xI Believe in saving money!!!:T
A Bargain is only a bargain if you need it!0 -
Hi everyone,
There's not a lot happening here. I spent most of yesterday in my dressing gown trying to shake off a lurgy, I feel a bit better this morning. I have to go out to pick up a prescription and I'll take some stuff to the charity shop, I'm in the mood for a declutter. I need to get DD to go through the clothes she has left here, I don't think she'll ever take them and there are two full wardrobes, some drawers and shelves.
Apart from that I will just be cleaning and sewing and trying to decide what to make for dinner without spending any money.
Have a good day.0 -
Good morning all
Has been a very wild night outside. It was our bin day yesterday so I imagine a few bins have moved ariund during he night. The trouble is sometimes they fall into the road and it is a busy road.
Took friend shopping yesterday and she stocked up on the bulky items. Her husband looked a little better and seemed in good spirits, I just think it is going to take him a while to recover from the heart bypass
Popping into Asda this morning for a few things and calling in to see DD. Must put WM on before we go.
Stay safe everyone, particularly our friends in Scotland
