Windows 7 to new hard drive

I have a Toshiba laptop C850 that has Windows 7.
Before I sell the laptop and get virtually nothing for it, how do I get the current Windows 7 to a new hard drive.
The laptop is very slow and friends have said it will be the hard drive. It takes around 4 mins to start up and at least a min to open a programme. I followed instructions and re-set the laptop back to it's original factory state but is still slow.
Do any computer buffs know how to solve this problem?
Kind regards Brodie.

did it really reset to factory state, and when did you do it
it's unlikely to be a faulty hard disk.Don't you dare criticise what you cannot understand0 -
I have been using this Laptop for 3 years and it has gradually got slower. It has been regularly de-fragmented and has never had enormous amounts of programmes loaded onto it.
The same occurred to my sons laptop, he had a similar Toshiba that was very slow and one of his friends got him to change the hard drive. It was changed and the windows he had was put back onto the new one via a CD that was made as a back up. His friend no longer lives in the UK else I would have asked him.
Once that new hard drive was fitted the machine ran like new.0 -
It would do, because windows was reinstalled it will be like new, not because you changed the drive
The number of programs is not directly related to a slowdown, and neither is the often vaunted fragmentation, it's what's installed (or changed), not how manyDon't you dare criticise what you cannot understand0 -
So it's just a way now to get windows re-installed.
Many thanks for the tips.0 -
the first post suggests you've already done that, hence my questionsDon't you dare criticise what you cannot understand0

What is the full model number? An issue can be the amount of RAM installed. We can also remove the unnecessary bloatware.0

One thing that hasn't been mentioned is the possibility that the hard drive is nearly full and Windows can't create sufficient virtual memory on the disc. Right click on the drive in Windows Explorer and select Properties and it will tell you how much space is free.... Nothing really has been explained as to why the laptop runs so slow. Even with the bloatware that has been mentioned, all this was on the machine when it was new and it was rapid.
Something must have made it go slow, I had noticed a massive decline in the last twelve months of use.
So now the machine has been turned back to it's original state, all problems seem to point to the hard drive.0 -
Install speccy by Piriform. It will tell you where any bottlenecks are in your system. I have this on machines, both windows 7. It discovered a hot CPU on one machine and a lack of memory in the other. No issues with spyware and it only runs when you want to to and not in the background.0

you're not answering the questions, just repeating the speculative theory - use chkdsk or a disk diagnostic on it if you suspect the hard diskDon't you dare criticise what you cannot understand0
