Yes, it's independence at all costs. That's why the acolytes lie - would you vote for guaranteed uncertainty followed by years (possibly the rest of your life) of being worse off?
The SNP want to take it one step further. They want independence at any costs and want to ensure bridges are fully burnt so there's no chance of ever going back.
The blog post provided by STD yesterday proposed to slash the defence budget by not having one i.e. free loading.
I guess they'll take a similar approach to health and save money by sending people on the bus to Carlisle and Newcastle.0 -

The reason is very simple: there is not a good answer from an SNP standpoint. With oil prices as they are, and TBH with the amount of oil left in the North Sea too quite probably, Scotland cannot become independent without screwing the poor and the sick quite royally.
It's ironic really because living in an area with much relative poverty* correlates strongly with voting for independence.
*nobody that is well in the UK suffers from absolute poverty apart from a few that choose not to claim benefits.0 -
This is exactly what i thought but would like to try to understand the alternative view from the pro indi people on here.Left is never right but I always am.0

The alternatives are:
1. It should all be different since [insert date of choice]
2. Scottish folk music is nice, sorry that you are going to die of cancer because we have no money
3. The oil price will be the highest it has ever been forever because that will make Scotland solvent0 -
Isn't Scotland in slow decline at the moment though? (You could arguably worry about the rest of the UK too).
I rather suspect a few years after independence Scotland would end up with a non-socialist government intent on shrinking the state dramatically.
This process would of course be painful, but the next generation might look at it as a turning point.
Oil has for too long been seen as the engine underpinning the Scottish economy, stopping them looking elsewhere for growth.0 -

Surely if Scotland were inside Europe the cancer patients would travel to the most accommodating European country for treatment?
At this moment in time that happens to be rUK.
I know I would do same if I was in dire straits.
There would be a window of time before the UK billing systems catch up.0 -

Economists call it the Dutch Disease.
Commodity producing countries (like the UK and Australia) end up with highly valued currencies and thus a stunted export market.0 -

I don't know much about their economy but JPMorgan Chase are moving a lot of tech jobs up to Glasgow as an alternative to offshoring. Good move.
I've worked in Glasgow too. In fact, I also worked in a research centre in Edinburgh with a world class reputation. I actually do like Scotland as a place.
It all helps, but the numbers are not enough currently to transform the economy.
If they cut back on free prescriptions and free education at uni stage, then they could redirect more money into R&D.
Clapton is right in that free uni places subsidise the middle classes really.0 -
I'm very confused. Is this the Torygraph being a puppet of the Unionist MSM or have the SNP supporters got it wrong again?

Say it ain't so Joe.0
