Oh no, if the Tories get in they'll have kicked Scotland out via a federal 'solution' well before the SNP get anywhere near voting on borrowing or deficits. It's Labour you want to worry about. Polls edging back in their favour it has to be said. But I don't think it would take much to persuade the Tories to go full federal. The Telegraph seems full of it these days.

bizarre and has no relevance to whether or not the SNP would wish for more borrowing

The clue's is in the :-
All bar the monarchy, foreign affairs and defence would be dealt with by national parliaments, sending some revenues to London for joint services.
bit re 'federalism'. Nicola Sturgeon has already laid most of her cards on the table with the speech she made in London this week re deficits and spending. Here's the analysis, with handy graphs if it interests you.

And here's Jonathon Portes from the NIES talking about it too on BBC News. I doubt you're REALLY interested to be honest, but they're here if you wish to avail yourself of them.

It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?

    yes that's what I said

SNP want more borrowing to fund more spending

    why aren't we agreeing?
  • We are. It's called 'this austerity thing hasn't really worked out as planned in 2010, shall we try something else now' policies.

Policies like sacking teachers to keep a local council drinks budget....
Dundee’s elected SNP leaders have voted to retain an alcohol allowance worth thousands of pounds — as a direct alternative to keeping a vital senior teacher in her job.

The SNP administration forced through £3.5 million of budget cuts, which included removing a “crucial” teaching post from the Menzieshill Young Mum’s Unit (YMU).

Opposition groups rallied round the unit, proposing a series of alternative savings in the hope it would spared restructuring.
Derek Scott, the Conservative member for Broughty Ferry, proposed slashing food and refreshment for councillors, alcohol purchases and hospitality budgets.

He said that by saving £44,000 in the entertainment allowance, the council could afford to keep the principal teacher at the YMU while still balancing the books.

  • Oh of course, that's absolutely fine with me. Bit worrying that you're randomly plucking figures like '14 billion' (!) out of your head and posting them here as independent 'observations' though. Never having read any articles, reports or even showing why you personally conclude Nicola Sturgeon will be short by 14 billion over 3 years. But, whatever makes you feel good re Freedom of Speech. I'm with you.

Ps Have you started watching your Breaking Bad box set yet ?

Glad that's absolutely fine with you , I'd have been awfully upset otherwise.

As you well know my comment and response referred to the main theme of jam tomorrow voters and the implications of it going forward. Naturally that all deliberately escaped your notice. Common practice when using nitpicking diversionary tactics, seems to be an increasing habit of yours on this thread.

Also have to wonder why you felt it was necessary for me to immediately provide a link , to justify or validate my own joined up thinking.

Unless you've reached the stage of not allowing yourself or anyone else an opinion unless it is validated or provided by someone else.

Now there's a scary thought for what could lie ahead in a Nationalist run Scotland.

Out of Government it's very easy to mock the Tories and Labour for pushing through unpopular decisions because it's the right thing to do. Cutting the drinks budget would be very unpopular with the Council. The mums at the Menzieshill YMU can't vote of course so can't register a complaint about this.

of course alcohol may have been a contributory factor in there being the young mums (not that I am blaming the SNP of course)

I wouldn't say, that borrowing lots more money is exactly a new policy
but one sees the attraction to the SNP
-if it does happen then a win for the SNP
-if it doesn't happen obviously all Scottish problems will be Westminster's fault for not borrowing even more money than currently planned
-if independence comes then simply refuse to pay any share of the UK debts

    win,win, win for SNP

  • Oooh.. that's really something that's going to go against all those thinking they'll vote for SNP rather than Ed Milliband. They'll be deserting SNP in absolute droves after reading this compared with crappy issues like Trident, Welfare, Austerity cuts, Housing and the NHS..
It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.

Jam tomorrow.. has been the catch-phrase of Labour in Scotland for the last 40 odd years. So don't even go there.

Providing links to back up what one posts or asserts to support it is something I always do. It provides context. And is rather more informative than just sitting in front of the pc thinking... 'I know, I'll post up something about 'costing 14 billion' and '3 years' dreamt up from the 'windmills of my mind' in order to support my distaste for the SNP.

Feel free to do so. But I'll feel equally free to ask you where you got your figures from when you post them. As I would absolutely expect others to ask me should I ever post something like 'SNP to bring 14 billion to Scotland in investments over next 3 years'.... 'Windmills of my Mind' or 'scary thoughts' doesn't really do it for me personally. Because it certainly wouldn't for you either if it was the other way round. Let's be honest.
