This is the document that the Scottish Government uses to publish revenue and spending:
http://www.scotland.gov.uk/Topics/Statistics/Browse/Economy/GERS/GERS2014xls
The link is to the most recent version I am aware of.
As you can see, Scotland raised 8.9% of the Landfill Tax Revenue but only 4.1% of Stamp Duty Land Tax.
Cheers for that, I've had a quick look, there's quite a lot to get through but I will read some more tomorrow.0 -
I notice you got in the "too wee" AND the "too stupid" insults in but left out the too poor one. Not that that's a thing.;)
As Hamish has said another Salmond sound bite oft repeated, with success as you've just used it. Relate something often enough and people start believing it.
With the exception of the idealists who have turned to the SNP merely as a vehicle to achieve their aim of somehow inventing a utopian society, the bulk of those voting for SNP operate in much the same way.
But that's people for you. And it's their democratic right to be led up the garden path, by a party who prior to 2007 in Swinneys own words couldn't believe they managed to gain power, just. And still in his words, it's down to Salmond, it's always him, he makes the decisions.
Didn't inspire much confidence on my part in their capabilities to operate much more than a cheque book.0 -

The truth is, and you cannot deny it, is the SNP are a party that all the rest would love to be right now. Which leader wouldn't want a massive surge in support? Which party wouldn't want masses of people willing to help volunteer for them campaigning? All the parties would give their right arm to be riding high like they are. You don't like them and that's fine but to insinuate 1.6 million yes voters are in the nationalist bubble or just a wee bit thick is really quite silly.
Anyway, enough looking back, onwards and upwards to Scotland's voice being quite a bit louder in 2015
Seen it all before Leanne. No different from 1979 when Thatcher came into power, or in 1997 when Blair and Nu Labour took power. Or prior to that Churchill , or Clement Attlee. Initially adored and then rejected by voters with short term memories.
It's always easier for the opposition to blame and poor scorn on the government in power. Maybe this is SNPs time, but if they manage to gain more powers I don't imagine the outcome will be any different in the end.
The problem for me is how far things have to go , before they are seen for what they really are by the Scottish people.0 -

Try these too, just for a bit of a 'out the box' stuff. You won't find anything much officially of course. But there's probably quite a lot that's 'not quite' making it onto the the Scottish 'books' and staying firmly on the UK one ( which would change with independence ) :-Currently, the majority of goods manufactured, grown, distilled or created in Scotland are exported via ports and airports in England. All taxation receipts from the following items such as airport fees, freight charges, fuel sales, VAT, applicable export levies and associated profits from these goods are then allocated as English income at the Treasury. The exact figures are hard to break down as they appear to be intentionally difficult to search or find in any of the Westminster governmental sites. For an example of a typically Scottish product regularly exported, in 2012 Whisky exports topped £4 billion. Approximately seventy-five percent of this is exported via English ports and allocated to the Treasury as English exports and income. This is also true of beef and other farm produce grown in Scotland, yet exported via ports down south. This can only be viewed as profits and tax receipts which should be credited to Scotland lost in a system set up to confuse and obfuscate...
...As a way of explanation, allow me use one chain to give a small example.
Sainsbury: They have 1,016 stores throughout mainland UK, 60 of those are in Scotland – according to 2012 figures. This is roughly 6%. Until March of this year they took £2,329 Million in VAT. Roughly 6% of that or £140 Million was taken in Scottish stores. Under the current arrangement, ALL of that money is allocated as English income to reflect where Sainsbury have their HQ.It is no longer refuted that Scotland exports more per capita than the rest of the UK. In 1968 when I first discovered that Scotland was in surplus in relation to the rest of the UK, its exports could be broken down into whisky, meat, timber, fish, and of course tourism which is a huge hidden income. Those exports are supported by a population of only 5,000,000 as against 45,000,000 for the rest of the UK, quite a substantial advantage.
With the oil boom, Scotland's economy was transformed. Scottish oil has to date funded the Treasury with £300 billion, which has pushed Scotland up from 7th place in World Wealth rankings, had it been in control of its own resources, to 3rd place.
I guess it will all come out if any SNP MP manages to get their hands on anything near the Treasury. May be worth asking the EU officially as well about possible membership in future. Power is knowledge after all... And let's face it. It's not as if official reports, mabye like oil and stuff haven't been hidden and fiddled with before is it ? And I guess we wouldn't be worrying about Trident or Houses of Lords or Olympics, London Sewer upgrades or High Speed Railways anymore. The cost of just Phase 1 of the HS2 rail link between London and Birmingham is currently officially estimated at £21.4bn. Phase 1 will run for 140 miles. Scotland will have to contribute 8.4% of the cost,The funding of London’s privatised water and sewarage system out of the UK government’s reserve funds means that there is no Barnett consequential. By-passing the usual funding process in this way means there will be no refund to Scotland for approximately £400m in Scottish taxpayers’ cash which will now be spent on improving the sewage treatment system in London and funding a cut in water bills for people in the South West of England.
In any case, it's Westminster seats not oil prices everyone is talking about right now. Onwards and upwards.

But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?0 -

Who are you voting for then ? Just so we all have an equal chance in terms of ripping into them if we don't like them. Why don't you just use the Scottish Government's own figures?
Because the SNP controlled Scottish government's own figures indicate an unsustainable deficit.
And clearly, ardent Unionists like John Swinney, were just making it up when they presented research to the SNP cabinet noting the unsustainability of Scottish finances even when oil was at near record highs.....SNP ministers have privately voiced concerns about an independent Scotland being able to afford state pensions and unemployment benefits.
A secret cabinet briefing paper by Finance Secretary John Swinney, which has now been leaked, revealed fears at the heart of the Government about the state of the country's finances and the impact on public spending.
Obviously he should have just presented his cabinet colleagues with a link to a blog by 'weegiewarbler' instead.....
Anyway, after the SNP's own research, presented to the SNP cabinet, using the SNP's estimates for a near record-high price of oil showed pensions and benefits in Scotland would become unaffordable and a Scottish deficit would grow to more than the UK's in % terms by 2016, here's what an SNP government spokesman said to the press....the projections the paper uses for oil revenues do not take account of the rising price of oil on the global market or the surge in investment which is now creating a new North Sea oil and gas boom.”

Yes definitely time for someone to look and add a whole lot of transparency into what exactly is going out ( especially exports from English ports and credited there ), and what is coming into Scotland financially. And what 'UK reserve funds' are actually paying for. Since the Scottish Govt paid the bill for the Commonwealth Games etc. I reckon there would be a really big black gaping hole suddenly somewhere in UK treasury figures also should Scotland leave.. probably why they were so keen to hold on ( as you stated earlier ). But right now there's just too much that's a bit 'vague'.
In any case, it's Westminster seats not oil prices everyone is talking about right now. Onwards and upwards.

You do have a point. It's outrageous that Scotland hasn't got at least three more major airports. Each one costs about as much as ten hospitals but they should just be built anyway. By Westminster. Or England as its otherwise known. Of course shipping from these airports will cost about 7 times more than just sending a lorry down to Stansted so they'll have to be subsidised too. Scotland can pay for that out of its own taxation from the people working in all the left shoe factories we're going to have to build so the Nats have somewhere to work to "restore Scotland's pride". Maybe that man who writes Wings Over Scotland passionately from his Braveheart home in Bath can finally move back and work in one.
He seems to be quite attached to Bath for some reason. It must be the Internet connection he needs for his important blog. If the hated English arm of IT oppression, BT would only give him fiber and a movie package for less than 20 quid a month in the honest Glasgow council estate he craves he would be right back there. With Sean Connery as a neighbour.
And another four ferry ports.
Then instead of driving loads of whisky down to Portsmouth and zipping them over the channel for export to France, they can get loaded on a boat at Inverness and spend about two weeks bobbing around in the ocean. This will cost ten times as much as a regular crossing too but that's ok because tractor production is soaring.
Your article also ignores the fact that 70% of Scotland's trade is with England. Or to rephrase that in Nationalist parlance, England steals 70% of Scotland's stuff and only offers useless bits of paper called pounds in return. So you need to in incorporate that too, into your cobblers.
Thank you.0 -
