Thanks for that but it is not detailed enough explaining exactly where & how much is spent on these departments we contribute to? Proportionately I'd like to know how much we contribute.
I suppose I need to know the breakdown to this statement below. What exactly is Scotlands share of spending? It does say population based when it comes to debt interest but no detail on the amount Scotland contributes to these UK gov departments.
In 2012/13 total public spending in Scotland was estimated to be £65.2bn, or 9.3% of total UK spending, with a population of 8.3%.
This figure takes into account a share of spending by UK government departments, including benefits payments, as well as a population-based slice of interest payments on the UK national debt.
So, even by the most generous measure, Scotland raised £53.1bn in 2012/13 and spent £65.2bn, leaving the country £12.1bn short.0 -
I've read those figures & articles many, many times over the last year Hamish. I'm trying to simplify it but nowhere seems to be able to breakdown the actual figures for what is spent in Scotland and what is spent UK wide. How do we really make sense of the figures without knowing exactly where they are spent?0

A very observational assessment .... Even the know side have admitted several times they were telling porkies and threatening people ....
Maybe its another one of those you had to have been here to see kinda things
one can certainly see why some-one lacking in integrity, honesty and decency plus with a tendency towards nationalist socialism might take your view
if it weren't for your evident stupidity it might be quite threatening;
although it might explain why so many faux Scots actually move south and establish their family permanently away from Scotland whilst professing ever lasting loyalty to the racist cause.0 -
I apologise if it appears I am going back in time to pre ref but besides Ivan McKee and his economics video I have never seen elsewhere a breakdown of where our revenues go.
The subsidy thing is a bugbear that raises its head repeatedly. I've not seen it comprehensively debunked by any pro Union supporter.0 -

But oil revenue was £8bn that year and likely to be around £1.5bn this year.
Leaving us £18.6bn short....
Putting that aside for a moment, under those same Scottish Government figures, Scotland raised £47bn in non-oil revenues and spent £65 bn.
Why did you keep claiming that "oil was a bonus" or "the cherry on the cake" when it is clearly no such thing?
Scotland is nowhere near self sufficient even with oil, and without it, or with it at levels as low as this year, Scotland is an economic basket case.
And while we're at it, whatever happened to all those "massive secret oil field" discoveries that were being hidden until after the referendum?
The reality it seems is rather different.......“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.
Belief in myths allows the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.”

So people wanting their country to be independent are racists now ? I would say you couldnae make that sh01te up ... But clearly you can
There are certainly non racist reasons why people may wish to establish a separate nation.
However that wouldn't be one that celebrates 'anyone but the English' or chooses the 'Flower of Scotland' as a (semi) national anthem or displays a huge inferiority complex in relation to the English or ever discusses local (Scottish ) issues other than blaming the English.
And it would be interesting to hear why you think that even after 20 years to think about Scottish independence, the voters of Scotland chose against.
Unless you use the usual national socialist excuse for all the ills of Scotland are because you believe the Scottish people are so stupid they were mislead by the genetically evil English.0 -
Hamish,
I'd be grateful if you can point me to a comprehensive document, graph & or article showing where the £65bn is spent. Something detailing exactly how much and where it goes. Surely such a document should exist? A transparent document detailing what our revenues are and exactly where they go. Something concrete, then I'll take it on board we are indeed subsidised.0 -
Elantan, if you're not familiar with Clapton I'd suggest not to engage. It's Groundhog Day with the race card over and over and over again......0

Only the rays from meteorites made of the purest Claptonite can suppress his superhuman [STRIKE]claptrap[/STRIKE] repetitiveness.:(
Still if we're still playing britnat bingo, I spotted he used the "too stupid" meme splinter so I win!:beer:There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0
