Don't beat yourself up over it Shazrobo. Tomorrow is another day. Anyway maybe you are one of those who can handle just a reduction in your drinking, without having to cut it out altogether. Millions of people can just drink now and again, or socially, without having a problem.
Don't feel you have to finish the bottle n one go, just because you started it. Bung it in the fridge and promise yourself one glass tomorrow, and try to stick to that.
Be careful about telling everything to an advisor tomorrow, if you are a driver. I'm not sure how I'd handle that myself, but maybe the situation of informing the DVLA won't arise.

Im sorry but imo thats really bad advice. If the poster cannot be honest with her counselor about her drinking then how is she going to get the best form of treatment for her?
First step to recovery is being honest, no matter how painful that is0 -
thanks for the replies. ended up finishing the whole bottle, and going back to the shop for a second which i also finished. i'm one of those who is going to have to stop altogether as one drink leads to another.
i have already seen my alcohol councillor once, today will be the second appointment, have had to keep a drink diary for the past 3 weeks and looking back on it, its scary the amount i have drunk.
I do drive, but never the day after a heavy drinkin sessionenjoy life, we only get one chance at it:)0 -
Shaz that is it exactly you have an illness and one drink leads to another to another. Others without that illness can have 1 or 2 drinks. Alcohism is an illness if you don't have the first drink one thing is for sure you will never have the second. I know easy for me to say you say. For others of you that slip and take that first drink and think it is hopeless it is not ok. When I used to go to weightwatchers and eat a big chocolate bar that was my day's consumption of calories didn't mean that I had to chuck the towel in. It meant that tomorrow was another day and tomorrow I could start all over and do my best not to give into my carb addiction. No difference really. you slipped today no big deal tomorrow is another day and tomorrow you will not have that first drink. One day at a time. Taffy

You are right, in principle at any rate, but I was just worried that if she lost her licence which maybe she needs to get the children to school or herself to work, the repercussions might make her feel worse about life and her situation.
I hope the alcohol advisor is not bound by the same rule as the GP as regards informing the DVLA. The stress of losing one's licence is not likely to help anyone in dealing with the immediate problem, having taken that first step towards getting help.
This is the first time I've been able to get onto the site since Sunday night, hence the delayed reply. Thank goodness it is back now, let's hope it lasts.

You've done really well managing for two days, and hopefully you are discovering that it gets easier as time goes on. You can be really proud of yourself, because the first day or so really is the hardest.
Hope you've got some choccy or other treat to reward yourself with :A .

But the DVLA are goin to want to have your licence and they will decide. I am supposed to tell them - the rules are apparently for alcohol "misusers" its 6 months revocation; for dependants, 12 months!
I'm still driving, haven't been back to the doc. But I'll need to go and get blood results. Next week probably.
Anyways since last Friday I have had 16 units. Thats really really good for me.
And TONIGHT - I brought it forward. First "dry" day (but its not over yet and theres wine in the cupboard)
Going out - coompletely sober - to give my son a lift. Strange feeling to be driving at night.0
