Furniture Barn - AVOID!

Options
Spent over £2k on furniture for loung and dining room in October.
Collected the smaller items ourselves, larger items (table, dresser and tv unit), to be delivered.
Rang to ask when delivery might happen, as told after 28th Dec and was told all items (except chairs), were in stock and being delivered on 31st. Delivery turns up, missing the table, which had been booked out of the warehouse, but hadn't made it to the van.
Called on 2nd Jan, salesman had moved to another branch and we had to deal with him, not originating store. Salesman said he would look into it and call us back. Called again on 5th and was told a table had been located (and physically seen and allocated to us) in another branch and this would be delivered to us ASAP and we were lucky, as no more stock for three months!
Called today to enquire as to delivery date and were told this table, on checking today for loading onto van, was damaged.
Now told table would be in on 13th and delivery ASAP. Explained we have no-where to sit and eat and are having a double birthday/house warming this weekend. Apparently, they can (against company policy), lend us a table, as long as we hire a van and collect it ourselves. Any damage and we will be liable for it.
Now been told table will be in on 13th, but delivery may take 3+ days to organise.
When I said that I would be coming in to get a refund, as I can get the same (or near as damn it) table, in stock, elsewhere, the manager said he would have me removed from the store. Nice way to treat a customer!

So, lessons learnt are: get everything in writing, record phone calls, don't fake any word for granted and spend our hard earned money elsewhere.

Furniture Barn will tell you anything to get your order. They are liars.

As you placed the order in store, I am not sure you have a right to a refund.

Did the seller state that the original delivery date was definite, or was it just an estimate?

For clarity, others might find this thread helpful.
  • Now been told by the manager that the table might not be in on Tuesday, due to 'the high winds expected in the south of England', meaning the boat may have to dock in Holland...

So they won't deliver the table in Corby, as we will get the Tuesday one quicker and the one in Doncaster, which was just about to be loaded yesterday (after being checked on Monday) is now damaged.

Delivery on the backs of flying unicorns now expected on April 1st...

But apparently, on the notes from the salesman, written after our call yesterday, say we are 'happy' with this
