Do you have a smoke alarm?

I've got two that the fire brigade fitted, but the one upstairs kept going beep and you can't replace the battery so i just prized it open a bit to shut it up. The fire brigade don't do them now ...... cutbacks; ...... cutbacks; ........ cutbacks. So i must put that on the 'to do' list.
Our fire brigade still do them, the two alarms have in built batteries to stop people taking them out for kids toys, and should last ten years, and i've got a carbon monoxide alarm.0

A tip for remembering to check alarms is to pick a notable date and do it the same time every year - ours are done on #1 son's birthday
That reminds me of my friend's Dad. He was a fireman so they changed the batteries on April 1st because of how foolish he'd look if he didn't have working smoke alarms
We have them on each floor, and CO Detectors. Ours are wired in. It always amazes me that some people are surprised that wired ones still have a battery that needs changing!0

We rent from the local HA and ours get checked when they do their annual service on the gas boiler.Over futile odds
And laughed at by the gods
 And now the final frame
 Love is a losing game0

We have five smoke alarms (in hall, cellar, dining room at bottom of stairs, upstairs landing and loft room). We have three CO alarms(kitchen, upstairs landing and one in the dining room where the woodburner is. This last one was a legal requirement when we had the woodburner fitted).
My son lives in a flat and has two smoke alarms, at each end of his hall, and a heat alarm in the kitchen, wired in, these were done when he had his flat rewired as it is apparently a legal requirement.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0

there is no excuse for not having a smoke alarm they are so cheap, even if you rent you can install your own, it is you that will die not the person who you are renting from.
remember the research that showed you children do not hear smoke alarms in their sleep 0 0

KxMx I'm hoping you mean you have them screwed to the ceiling as it's extremely important to install smoke alarms horizontally and not vertically. An incorrectly installed alarm will take much longer to activate, during which time any fire may take hold and prevent you escaping.
I checked, and double checked, the instructions included with the alarms very carefully before installing to make sure the planned location was suitable, thanks 0 0

Talking of carbon monoxide detectors, when ours started bleeping as a sign it was due for replacement we replaced it and put the old one in the garage until it had finished bleeping so we could dispose of it. Didn,t want to toss it while still beeping in case somebody thought a bomb and it caused an emergency incident.
It literally went on peeping for two or three months before it went quiet again. Then just as we we were going to hand it in at the council tip the darned thing started beeping again and continued for about four weeks. These things seem to have a life of of their own! Has anybody else had a similar problem with them?0

This happened to mine. I just replaced the batteries and it has been fine since.
We have five smoke alarms, one on each landing (town house), one in DS2's room because he has a fish tank with electric pump and he falls asleep with his TV on sometimes and one in the spare room because the router etc are in there and always on. I've got two Carbon Monoxide detectors in the kitchen.0

We have just the one smoke alarm, it's mains controlled and checked once a week.
I cannot understand people not having them.0

We've got one in every room and a carbon monoxide monitor. Yeah, I've always been a little paranoid about fire...0
