Do you have a smoke alarm?

Two, but I haven't checked them in... years. They're wired into the electrics. No CO alarm though.0

We have two which are mains powered, one in the hall and one on the landing. Both the children's bedrooms have them, one battery powered and the other is connected to the ceiling light.
We do also have a carbon monoxide detector in the utility room where the boiler is situated. I always pack it when we go on holiday as I am worried about dodgy boilers in static caravans.0

Thanks everyone - hope nobody minds the reminder. My daughter has two smoke alarms, fitted by her partner before they moved in. They don't rent. We live in an area where property isn't ridiculously expensive, and they had saved a good deposit, so were able to buy (with a mortgage). So smoke alarms are their responsibility.
Some very good points about carbon monoxide detectors as well. I have one and so does my mum, but I don't think my daughter does. I'll ask her tomorrow.
Rachiibell, I hope you have a smoke alarm now.0

It wont be a legal requirement for many years to come unfortunately. A recent Private Memmebrs Bill requiring all private sector landlords install them failed to go through to a second reading. Interesting to read that they were more concerned about the cost placed on a landlord to install them.

I've got two that the fire brigade fitted, but the one upstairs kept going beep and you can't replace the battery so i just prized it open a bit to shut it up. The fire brigade don't do them now ...... cutbacks; ...... cutbacks; ........ cutbacks. So i must put that on the 'to do' list.
Yes, we had one that went faulty and we had to replace it. I wouldn't be without one, though. As this is a 2-bed bungalow, only one is necessary, in the central hallway. It's very sensitive and doesn't like us grilling or frying.
B&Q do them, not very expensive compared with life, limb and all your possessions.Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.

We recently did a loft conversion and due to building regulations we had to have a permanently wired-in smoke alarm fitted to all landings, and fire doors fitted to all bedrooms. We also needed an extra fire door between the lounge and hallway because our kitchen is open-plan.0
