AA breakdown advice needed

hi I am new to this site only just joined and am hoping someone would kindly give me some advice.my partners car broke down a few months ago, think it's the engine n the electrics that is the problem.he decided after it broke down to join the AA for £20 per month. He is now just waiting for his membership to come through the post and is then going to ring the AA and say he has broken down and he says the AA will tow it to the local garage and it won't cost him a penny,he says the AA will pay all the work the garage do.i have told him I don't think that is likely at all but he says it will.I know this may seem a strange thread but would like any advice etc.many thanks xx

Assuming he's only paid for the basic roadside assistance and recovery. Therefore, the AA guy will do a diagnosis of the car on arrival, if it's something simple he can fix quickly he will but as far as I know they charge for any new parts fitted. If he can't fix it he will take it (or arrange for it) to be taken a local garage of your choice. However, the AA DO NOT pay for the repairs. Those costs will be down to your partner.

PM a Board Guide and ask them to move this to the Motoring forum. :)

    Edit: I see you cross-posted. :(

Part of the Furniture 10,000 Posts Name Dropper
A mobile mechanic may well diagnose the fault for as lot less than £240 .
AA nor any similar roadside assistance will not pay for the repair work .

The AA (and other breakdown companies) don't typically cover faults before the membership started, and may well refuse to look at it if it's obvious this is not a "new" fault but one that's been there a while.
