Screen Resolution?

I bought a new windows 8.1 laptop but all the desktop/taskbar etc icons are huge despite having them set to medium. I looked at screen resolution and it is set to 1366x768 (recommended) but underneath in a yellow warning triangle it says "your resolution is lower than 1200x900. Some items may not fit on your screen"

Any help appreciated, tnx.

Search this forum for your resolution is lower than 1200x900. Someone had almost the exact same question yesterday.
  • Could be a video driver problem.

If the driver is missing/wrong/corrupted, Windows will switch to a default driver, which will likely be limited in resolution options.

    Also, 1200x900 is 4/3, whereas 1366x768 is 16/9.

Do the desktop items look elongated, across the screen?

Thanks Bob, it's brand new and am just trying to set it up. Apart from the bigger than I'd like icons, no,not elongated - websites etc look ok.

Not sure why I didn't think to google the warning b4, but I just did and by changing the text size back to small from medium the warning has gone and the icons are fine. It must have reset something during a windows update as it was fine initially. Tnx for the help guys :)
I'll probably be back with another load of questions as I come to them!

Deleted. Should've read the OP more carefully. :o

    Try this.

Go into Control Panel, and click display.

Under where it says "Change the size of all items" is a slider marked Smaller and Larger.

    Is the slider grayed out?
