IF I Was selling a mobile phone, cheap delivery would not be my priority.

Better to lose £10 or so on delivery than the value of the phone because ebay refunding the buyer.

    I completely agree

But I wasn't quoting comparisons to Collect Plus.

Special Delivery is a cheap option for a guaranteed delivery (or your money back), fully insured and no hassle in delivery/collection.

My nearest Access point is 13 miles away. It would cost me more than that to drive there.

    Fair enough

i use Access point to recipient which is normally £7.79 inc VAT. the last one i sent i handed in at access point at 4pm and it was delivered 8.30am the following morning

And, as I said, I used SD. It cost £7.15. It was there at 7.55am and was fully insured with a money back guarantee if it was later than 1pm. As the OP hasn't given any value for the phone or requirement for speed, this fits the bill on both questions even though they aren't stated.

Sorry for not putting enough details.

I sold the phone for £80 and £4.30 delivery.

They paid yesterday so I ought to send it tomorrow, which means booking a collection today (if it is to go by courier).

I'm waiting for payment for another item I sold, which involves a trip to the Post Office, so I could take both at once tomorrow.

So are we decided that Special Delivery is best?

I have used Hermes in the past so maybe I won't qualify for the £10 thing? I can try though, see if it lets me.

    B.

I don't use couriers apart from MyHermes- what does delivered to access point mean please?

For paypal protection you would need it delivered to the address that paypal give you as 'OK to send to'. If Access point is a place for collection- then it would not be suitable for paypal regardless of level of cover or tracking.

Seems to me that it's better for me to use Post Office Special Delivery, though I baulked at paying £7.15 when I only collected £4.30 from the buyer.

It's the only service that gives (A) up to £500 compensation and (B) you get a signature.

I shall go to the Post oFFice then. Many thanks, I would not have thought of that as I have always found couriers to be cheaper.

They're UPS equivalents to parcel shops. The difference between myHermes/Collect+ and UPS is that UPS you can't book direct without a UPS account (and obviously it's faster).

    Thank you.

So it isn't any good then for PayPal unless seller knew for certain that buyer would choose a collection point for their PayPal address,

I recently sold a couple mobiles and sent them through P2G site and UPS, it cost £10 as i needed to insure them for £100, but they were delivered next day
Are you sure P2G/ UPS covers mobiles? The site will happily charge the premiums - you are implicitly agreeing to their t&cs which may well exclude mobiles.

Having said that I find UPS quite reliable and I regularly send items with them uninsured as they are excluded from their insurance. Of course I don't pay any additional premiums.
