Posting a mobile

Can anyone help, please?

Just sold an old mobile on ebay. And just found out that my usual courier, Hermes, offers no compensation whatever if they lose the parcel, because mobile phones are excluded from their insurance.

I've charged the buyer £4.30 for postage. Anyone know which courier I can use who DOES insure mobiles?

Cheers

B.

  • What sort of value is the phone?
I believe that if you use Royal mail signed for (what used to be recorded), they pay out up to £50 for loss or damage.
Valuables are excluded from this but mobile phones don't fall into this category of goods.

If sending via RM, make sure that the battery is fitted to the phone when sending it as this is one of their requirements.

I recently sold a couple mobiles and sent them through P2G site and UPS, it cost £10 as i needed to insure them for £100, but they were delivered next day and i think they are still doing the promo of new users get £10 off first delivery ( not sure of the code needed)

I sent an iPhone this week for recycling. It cost me £7.15 and is insured for £500. Last time I checked £7.15 was cheaper than £10 and £500 was greater than £100.

not if you sign up with P2G as a new user and use their new user code and get £10 off. Put still prefer UPS than RM as i have had special delivery items not delivered on time.

Not but that is assuming the seller is eligible for the first free offer.

Time wasn't the issue in the OP. Besides, if you use SD and it isn't delivered by 1pm the next working day, you get the fee back. You won't find anything cheaper than that.

IF I Was selling a mobile phone, cheap delivery would not be my priority.

Better to lose £10 or so on delivery than the value of the phone because ebay refunding the buyer.

£5.94 inc VAT with UPS next day delivery is the cheapest i found, but thats Access Point™ to Access Point™ so the same as collect+

But I wasn't quoting comparisons to Collect Plus.

Special Delivery is a cheap option for a guaranteed delivery (or your money back), fully insured and no hassle in delivery/collection.

My nearest Access point is 13 miles away. It would cost me more than that to drive there.
