UKPC Charge - McDonalds Stockport Forum

I have just received an invoice for £100 (£50 for quick payment) from UKPC for going 27 minutes over the allotted 90 minutes at a McDonalds car park near Stockport train station on 22/12/14.

A purchase was made from McDonalds within that time but the lime limit was exceeded and the driver did leave the site.

I am obviously very reluctant to pay the full £50. I've read before that making a partial payment (say £10) will often placate these chancers, but that was a few years ago.

Any ideas please?

Many Thanks!

Please read the NEWBIES FAQ sticky at the top of the forum index, one page back from here, use the Forum Jump button to navigate there.

You do need to read and understand that sticky as you will have to do a bit of work to get rid of your problem. We will help and guide you, but won't be able to do it for you, so the more knowledge you gain about how to deal with this, the better you will handle it, and the more likely you will be successful.
Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.

also complain strongly to mickey dees (or the landowner) and insist on a cancellation
  • Ok so after reading the FAQs it looks like my best bet is asking them to prove that me being there for an extra 27 minutes cost them what they are invoicing me for.

Should I highlight just this point or combine it with some others?

Challenge the ticket as the registered keeper, don't mention who was driving (refer to the driver as 'the driver did this, the driver did that...).

    1. The sum sought does not represent any financial loss incurred by either MET or the landowner.
    2. You have a firmly held belief that MET do not have sufficient legal standing on the land in order to offer parking or pursue charges in their own name.

Then wait for them to reject and give you a POPLA code, which you can use to kill this off. Come back when you get it.

just use the template letter "as is" (I assume to UKPC as MET dont seem to be mentioned) - providing the notice you received is the NTK by post

dont try to be clever about it, just use the template

so its use the template to appeal the NTK to UKPC

then go to popla if you are unsuccessful, plus complain to the landowner about harassment of legitimate customers by their PPC

Oh yeah, just noticed it's UKPC. It's nearly always MET at Maccy D's, wonder if they've been booted out (or maybe it just falls under a wider retail park PPC).

Nothing wrong with the appeal I've written (apart from the MET reference).

  • That's great I will get this sent off... so how does the popla code work? And how likely are popla to uphold my appeal if UKPC reject it?

There's an email address for appeals on the letter from UKPC... should I use this or stick to snail mail?

If they accept appeals by email, use it. (Save any acknowledgement you get). Don't be surprised if they send a debt collection letter in the meantime ... if they do then complain to the BPA about UKPC's breach of the BPA code of practice. (There are LOTS of examples of this recently).

Post #3 of the NEWBIES thread talks about POPLA.

    Very very indeed.
