  • Well I finally gave in and bought the book! We downsized last year from a large 4 bedroom house to a small 3 bedroom cottage. We got rid of loads of stuff but we were still bursting at the seams! Thought we had recycled, donated etc as much as possible but after reading this thread and the book, have managed to get rid of loads more:j I had been watching youtube videos about storage solutions and I was about to go out and buy more storage:eek: Anyway I have so far sorted our clothes and the airing cupboard and can't believe how much space we have, I've even got empty drawers! The linen cupboard is also half empty! Loving it:D

I asked our library to buy it, so hopefully I may be first in the queue if they do get it.

I'm glad you got one problem out of the way Jinny. Enjoy your cuppa and slice. Yum!

  • Sorry to be a pest but another folding question - what is samosa folding & how do I find out how to do it? I put samosa fold into you tube but unsurprisingly got mostly samosas...

There's a pile to shred yuk hate that job...

I saw a hint somewhere to spray an A4 size piece of paper with wd40 then put it through the shredder. that oils the teeth to prevent it jamming. Sounds a good tip, thanks.

Apart from burning on a bonfire, scrunched paper can also go in the compost bins.

Ok, I can't resist anymore, lol. I noticed this thread 5 days ago and been reading it avidly. I cannot tell you how it has inspired me, as I am a Hoarder (capital H, yes) by nature.

On Saturday I went to a Waterstone bookshop and they had run out of it, telling me that even the printer had run out and they were starting on new batches. However they checked other branches and lo and behold Wimbledon still had 2 copies. I was on my way to Wimbledon that very afternoon so... I got THE BOOK!!! :D

I'm reading it and have decided not to do anything yet until after February when I'm giving up a rather time consuming and tiresome part of my work which occupies much of my time, even here at home (endless emails and reports). Then I'll start following MK's advice to the letter.

I'm doing the prior preparation at the moment (visualising and noting down what I want from this reordering of my home), and will follow through down to sticking to the exact sequence of categories for discarding and then storing. No flitting from here to there and back.

I have strong attachments to a large number of trinkets and papers from my past, and I think this is a good opportunity to revisit these attachments and hopefully letting them go. I have already seen, at a glance around my flat, items that give me no joy and will be happy to bag up and send on their way, but I'll wait to do the whole thing at once. What I have done however, is to go around and note down komono (miscellaneous) sub-categories as I have lots of stuff in there.

My view is: the book is very promising, and if I want to do this massive reordering, I might as well do it properly.

What I HAVE done though, is the intriguing carrier bag samosas. They're great especially when you have hoarded over 100 bags (ok half have gone to the charity shop who always needs them). One bag was huge, and now looks more like a danish pastry rather than a samosa. :)

Thanks OP for this thread. If I become a tidying obsessive, I'll come looking for you. Mwahahahaha.

It doesn't actually call it samosa-ing but that just describes it so well

    Happy triangles!
