Lots of positives yesterday from Kondoing my bedroom, I have been looking for a pair of boots to buy to replace my faithful but knackered pair and found perfect ones in my wardrobe...who knew! I also found moisturiser that I only buy when it's half price and last time shopping it was ridiculously expensive so I never got any and thought my skin was going to have to crawl off my face and I found a roll on deodorant that was on my shopping list too so I figure I've saved loads of money as well as having lots more space and feeling so much calmer when I go in the bedroom. My OH is working away at the moment and when I spoke to him last night I asked why he had 14 checky shirts in various thicknesses and amazingly he told me to throw two out!!! This man never parts with anything ever. My daughter says it's karma being nice to me for getting rid of the things I don't need and giving me the stuff I do...I like that idea

  • Really impressed by the improvements everyone is making!

I spent most of yesterday looking for a credit card bill I'm sure got dumped on one of the Tables of Shame in the living room - the worst thing is that I've missed the payment date by at least a week .

Here's another 3 days worth of my Min's Game scores:

    Day 16
    Lots of dust!
    Ancient dusty paper table-cloth

:j at this point I found my kitchen table:j which is very sturdy and fits the space in the kitchen very nicely, but oh my! it has a very unjoyful Fifties-ish black and white Formica top so always has to be covered with a cloth :( .

1 pizza flyer - straight from letterbox to recycling bin
    1 book to friend
    2 seed pods to sister
    1 jar very OOD turmeric
    1 bottle OOD sunflower oil
1 card of wire closures for plastic bags
    2 books returned to Library
    2 items of junk mail
    3 magazine inserts
    Day 17
1 colour supplement direct from paper to recycling
2 weekly meal plans for last fortnight
1 bag glass jars to bottle bank
1 OOD jar of celery salt

(moving into the utility room/Northern Dumping Ground now)
    3 magazines
4 indoor pots of crocuses -planted for spring 2014 and neglected to death :( (now buried in the garden either to self-compost or to live if there's still a spark)
    3 old newspapers
2 very old packets of seeds
    Day 18
18 very OOD packets of seeds

Now off to resume the search for the Unpaid Bill :(:(:(

    :) Well done GrannyKate.

I did kondo a biro into the bin last night. It had survived previous culls because it sometimes works - badly - but is a constant annoyance. Life's too short. I also stopped reading a library book which I decided simply wasn't good enough to hold my attention. Am now reading something else which I am enjoying much more, and will return said library book today.

Strangely, after burbling on here about the parental loft, I woke from dreaming about tackling it. It's a pig of a place to work in, as the highest point just about has room to stand in hunched over (I'm almost 6 ft tall) and the rest is crawling cautiously over the unboarded floor.

Howsomever, I have formed a cunning plan about dragging the bags/ boxes nearest the hatch down, one at a time, to work through. At the very least they will be revisted and properly organised and contents listed. At the best, I'm hoping if Mum sees what's in them, by supervising from her armchair, she might decide to let some of it go. She tires very easily and becomes stressed by decision-making, so there will be limited progress. If she's done all the decision-making she can stomach, I will go back into the loft and start again up there with putting things neatly.

;) It's a helluva project and I'm just itching to get at it. I shall take a beanie hat to keep warm and to keep the cobwebs off my hair. And probably a flask, sandwiches and a sherpa guide, in case I get lost.

I know this thread is about getting rid, rather than buying things, but why not buy a nice plastic tablecloth for your kitchen table? They are much nicer than they used to be, and can simply be wiped over with a cloth as opposed to washed and ironed. I have a very joyful one in duck egg blue with geese and ducks on it, and have got rid of a big pile of fabric tablecloths :T
  • I have a William Morris 'oilcloth' which brings me huge joy (can't afford the fabric or wallpaper!). I don't think there's anything wrong with acquiring new stuff as long as it's joyful, especially if it's improving something you don't love.

blueDoggy re the credit card, trust me that this could be a turning point - I have had that experience and many similar ones, in fact almost all my bills are on direct debit because I was always forgetting to pay them. I can honestly say that since MK I have not had to search for letters, statements or bills. Even if I haven't filed them, there is so little paperwork to look through that they are easy to find. Keep going!

  • DawnW Thanks for your nice suggestion. I'll explore it when I feel more in control of the Tip-Which-Is-Home. Problem is, until I get myself sorted out and find my Get-Up-And-Go (which disappeared without leaving a forwarding address :D) I can't trust myself with anything more challenging than a paper tablecloth, which can be thrown away when dusty. (It really gets that bad, I can look at the dust, know it needs clearing, deplore the state the place is in but lack the energy to deal with it.) Ideally, I'll get a new table "one day", but it's at the bottom of the priority list.

PollyWollyDoodle lost bills were the turning point, I missed most payment dates all through 2013 and most of 2014, when I just tossed incoming mail onto the heap and shut the door . It was only when the last one I tossed onto the heap slid off amid a mini-avalanche, and I found myself thinking "too bad, leave it", that my better self gave me a shake and made me start to get a grip. I'm loads better than I was, thanks to vast amounts of vitamin supplements, but still find that if I do 3 "tasks" ("tasks" can include coffee with friends) in a day, I'm exhausted, more than that and I can be knocked out for a couple of days :(.

I've found the Marie Kondo method so very helpful it's beyond words; and this supportive forum, with other people's stories of how they've coped and succeeded which I can read, draw strength and learn from, is an absolute godsend.

    THANK YOU, EVERYONE! :A:A:A

  • BlueDoggy baby steps are all progress, you'll get there :) could you maybe keep an eye on the CC online? It involves remembering a password but is accessible any time you want (and you can get paperless bills too).

I'm exhausted. Got my mum over this afternoon and some friends this evening as it's my bday tomorrow. And as much as I love them, I just want to sleep all day. I did get my bits and pieces done at least, so they just need put back

Hi all I resonate with you peeps who tire easily. I have an underactive thyroid condition. Blood tests tell me my levels are fine. However there are days I can get loads done and some days it takes a huge effort to drag myself around. If I sit and rest I fall asleep. I even fell asleep at work once!
So I just get up and make a list of no more than 3tasks. If I can manage a bit more that's fine. A few on here have energy problems ME exetara. I think most of us run on adrenaline which is exhausting to the body. Take your time just chip away at your to do's it's not a race. I have found being kondoed life is easier. So each place you tidy will stay that way and it will get better.
I do have to watch I don't run myself down being a carer (I do it out of love not because I have too). I did too much at the weekend because I found some energy. However as my mother used to say, nature has a way of slowing you down.
So right...here I am this morning sore throat and feeling grotty.
Hopefully shaking it off by resting me old bones.
Upwards and onwards positive vibes to all
    Have a great day:)
